Characterful bespoke camper conversion Re-trimmed burgundy and brown interior with Porsche front seats Orange panel van with German tri-colour decals and Fuchs-style alloys Recently driven on a six-hour round trip without fault Recent rolling road setup and two new tyres fitted 2L air cooled engine with Weber carburettor and electronic ignition
(Category N insurance write-off 2019)
The Appeal
If you’re getting Mystery Machine vibes from this 1983 T25, we’re with you. The colour scheme may be different, but the same sense of creativity and adventure shines out from the distinctive orange paint scheme and the remarkable bespoke interior.
The transformation has preserved the van’s windowless factory layout, which means the ‘reveal’ when you pull back the big sliding door is all the more arresting. The work has been done to a high standard and includes re-trimmed two-tone 1980s Porsche high-back front seats, wood and vinyl roof and sidewalls and a leather sofa in burgundy. There are even bespoke door cards with VANS logos.
The interior is well kept, while the exterior leans more towards a rat look, which feels like it suits the aesthetic. There are some appropriate German tri-colour graphics and a set of Fuchs-style grey anodised alloys to complete the look.
Beneath the rear deck is a 2L air cooled engine with Weber carburettor and electronic ignition. Recent maintenance included a new fuel tank, rolling road setup and two new tyres. It is said to be very reliable, including on a recent 6hr drive to Goodwood.
