The Appeal
In 1991, Saab produced just 300 examples of the 900 Turbo Cabriolet in a special Monte Carlo limited edition, commemorating the marque's legendary victory on the 1961 Monte Carlo Rally. With its striking yellow paintwork and turbocharged performance, the Monte Carlo edition has become one of the most collectable variants of the classic Saab 900, and our car bears the number 99, a production number that carries special resonance for any Saab enthusiast, echoing the model that cemented the brand's reputation.
Built at the Valmet factory in Uusikaupunki, Finland, in May 1991 and shipped new to the United States, this 900 Turbo S16 Cabriolet has led a well-documented life. It spent its early years stateside before being imported to Spain in 2007, where it was driven by a former Saab sales director and subsequently kept in a climate-controlled garage by a dedicated collector. The vendor acquired the car in 2023 and brought it to Germany, where a substantial programme of maintenance was carried out, including replacement of hoses, switches, a genuine Saab soft top, a rear silencer, tyres, and more.
Remarkably, the car is reported to retain its original paintwork, with only the bumpers and wheel arch trims having been refinished. Even the original factory stickers remain in situ on various components. The interior has been carefully maintained, with the leather treated and sealed, and minor dashboard cracks addressed with 2K resin. The vendor reports that the car runs and drives very wellt, and that all systems are fully operational.IMG_0296 Torsten Schulz.jpeg7.65 MB
