Over the last 18 months or so, we have sold a number of 12/ 60 Beetlebacks, each of high quality and each with its own particular history. PL 7192 is no different in this respect and in fact, could be the finest of them all.
The first custodian in 1931 was a Mr Lee. Clearly an organised man, he kept all the invoices helping to build an in-depth history file. This file runs from 1931 to 1951 when the car passed to Jack Wilson, then to Paul Quiggin and finally to Mr Bowthorpe, the latter continuing to file invoices until he sold the car in 1973.
By 1995, the car was in the possession of Phillip Kneller in Buxton. The bodywork was refreshed and new wings were made by Dave Moroney. The bright work was all re-plated at that time.
During the mid 2000’s, the car was re-wired, the steering box was rebuilt, the brakes were overhauled and as the oil pressure reading is so good, it is assumed that the engine was rebuilt at the same time.
The interior trim has just been replaced with new leather and the hood, side screens and tonneau cover are in excellent condition. The car drives exceptionally well with no signs of over heating and of course the excellent oil pressure as mentioned above. It has been used for many long distance tours, both in the UK and in Europe, and has proved itself to be a most enjoyable and reliable car.
