As BMW’s Motorsport Division began to get a bit of flack from traditional M drivers, who felt that the latest generation M cars (back in 2005) were becoming too safe, too controlled, with their surfeit of driver aids and creature comforts, the decision was made to prove a point by producing this no holds barred, raw two-seater monster. Transplanting the world beating 3. 2 straight six S54 from the current M3, this time BMW were able to squeeze the full potential from the engine and by mating it with a tauter, lighter more focused chassis produced a car that would silence all their critics.
Ultimately BMW chose to make only just over a 1, 000 of these little gems. Munich’s pocket rocket is certainly no frills, but still retains a high level of comfort and a good spec, despite having a one eye on weight. Most Z4Ms come with high numbers of owners and it’s rare to find one that has been this well looked after by all of its (four) previous keepers covering only 35, 400 miles throughout its lifetime. The service schedule has been respected and carried out exactly in accordance with manufacturer’s guidelines.
