Welcome to the sale of my MK2 Scirocco 1. 6 GT line automatic.

Having been brought out in 1981 the mk2 Scirocco has now picked up a great following in the enthusiast world of classic cars. Being more expensive when new against its younger brother the mk2 Golf, the Scirocco didn’t sell in vast numbers, meaning the few that are still on the road today, offer great value for money classic motoring, in a vehicle not too many can say they have had the privilege to drive. The automatic gearbox in the Scirocco offers a surprising amount of usable power and is very well suited to modern day traffic compared to other automatic boxes of that generation – well worth a go if you are a manual gearbox scirocco fan.

Presenting in very original condition, this 1987 model year Scirocco is one which, with some love, could be taken to the next level and easily reach ‘collector grade condition’ or be used and thoroughly enjoyed as it is. The items which personally stood out to me when purchasing the car, which I have been keen to retain are small, but important items, such as the original glass which is still fitted all the way round (including the windscreen!) all etched with the registration number. The other item which also stood out was that the car still wears its original dealer supplied number plates.

A substantial amount of work has been initiated in recent years, including a full, professional re-trim to the correct factory specification. Just undertaken last month, it also benefits from a cambelt and water pump replacement as well as a new alternator, full service and various other items. Mechanically the car is absolutely sound. The area which could be improved, should someone wish to, is the body work. There is some minor paint bubbling at the top of the windscreen (show in photo…) and a graze to the driver’s door which has been touched in (photo …). The car has been slightly lowered by the fitment of coilovers, however these can be replaced with the original springs and dampers by separate negotiation, if required. The car has also been fitted with much more desirable ‘Snowflake’ wheels, however I still have the original steel wheels with good tyres which I would be willing to include into the sale.

Ready to use and enjoy just in time for this years prime motoring months, having recently passed its annual MOT test, an early viewing is recommended.
