CSC Present for sale this stunning 911 2. 7 RS homage. Built on a late (1988) G50 3. 2 shell which offers the benefit of the early car aesthetics but with the practicality and usability of the later G50 series chassis. The car was built for comfort and long distance cruising, whilst retaining the charming engagement of the early cars.
The 3. 2 Chassis and suspension, combined with a 5 speed gear box, air conditioning, heated seats and power steering make this 911 a pleasure to use rather than a chore, which often so many backdates and early cars can become.
The car does exactly what it set out to do, combining the legendary aura and raw ability of the 2. 7 RS with the usability, comfort and convenience of an 80’s 911, in excellent condition throughout with factory standards of fit and finish.
The initial build was carried out in 2011 by recognised marc specialists Jaz with the body conversion work by Sportwagon who are one of the very best for 2. 7 RS body work, and all at a cost of circa £80, 000 + vat.
Starting from a bare shell, the pre-74 look is achieved with new OEM supplied steel front wings, front slam panel & full length steel bonnet. The front bumper and ‘burzel’ ducktail engine lid are GRP and the rear bumper is a steel ‘touring’ spec item, whilst early spec steel full length sills were fitted.
Once all the fabrication work was complete, the car was refinished in Aubergine, including inside the engine bay and front boot area with a dusting of paint as original. The inner wheel arch areas were also finished in body colour. Finishing touches to the bodywork are the ‘S’ trim to the front and rear bumpers and touring spec lower side sills. All fittings are genuine factory parts.
The 3. 2 engine was stripped and rebuilt for fast road use using Jerry wood fast road cams, GT2 head studs, new big end shells, new rod bolts, new valve guides with competition valve springs & retainers. The inlet manifold was stripped and detailed with all parts re-plated and tin ware was powder coated as necessary. The car runs RS type stainless heat exchanges and rear silencer and is fitted with air conditioning for cabin comfort.
The gearbox was stripped checked and fettled as required and is fitted with a Limited slip differential which provides greater corner entry stability when pushing on in the car.
The wheels are 7x16 and 9x16 fuchs wheels. These were reconditioned into polished 73 style with special matt finish to the return on the rears. The car has covered approximately 35, 000 miles since the initial build in 2011 and servicing has always been with recognised independent specialists such as Tuthill, Jaz and more recently GTR and Ninemeister.
The interior received a high quality make over and is trimmed in leather where appropriate with RS door cards and the correct switch gear & instrumentation. The electrically adjustable leather Recaro Sport Topline seats were chosen to reflect the build spec for ‘comfortable cruising’ and feature electric heating and cooling fans and prove very comfortable during longer journeys. If a more period aesthetic was preferred fitting a set of modern period correct D’eser seats would be an easy and inexpensive option for the next owner.
A Becker Mexico radio head unit is fitted which has an integrated Blue-tooth function for hands-free calling while the navigation can either be planned at home or office on a PC and downloaded onto a Compact Flash card or made directly on the unit via its own 2GB card that holds navigation data for 34 countries.
Of course the Becker Mexico also plays music to a superlative standard of quality. It can take as a source a remote CD player, an iPod or direct from a Flash card.
In 2020, the car received a full body refresh by GTR Motorsport which included replacement sill’s minor wing repairs and a repaint at a cost of £32k. This extensive refresh work was fully photographed, so any potential buyer can be reassured that there is no corrosion lurking anywhere on this car.
Subsequently an EZ Electric Power Steering conversion was installed taking the usual heft out of low-speed manoeuvres whilst retaining all the fulsome 911 steering feel that you expect & want as the pace picks up, in short, the best of both worlds.
In December 2021 a full and comprehensive £10k mechanical makeover was undertaken comprising of all new suspension, including turbo steering arms which help with bump steer and brakes. Front wheel bearings and seals were also replaced and a full GEO alignment completed.
As you would expect, this 911 drives like a late Carrera 3. 2, which, to be clear, is a very good thing and feels tight, taught & responsive, befitting its full rebuild status. Being based on a late Carrera 3. 2 the car also benefits from the clean and quick shifting Getrag G50 gearbox.
This stunning RS Homeage comes with very comprehensive service and build history and is a very well sorted 911 ready to enjoy the next chapter of its life.
