For sale reluctantly is my beloved MX5, affectionately nicknamed ‘Tango’. I’ve had her since May 2020 and since then I’ve poured my heart and soul into making her the best she can be, but as my family grows it’s becoming ever more apparent that I need a better/ bigger family ‘bus’ and so my weekend plaything has to go - I don't have the time I wish I had to use it, and so I think it's time someone else got some enjoyment out of her.
Please believe me when I say I have spent nearly £13k on this car in improvements, upgrades and the odd necessary repair. I have logs and records for everything, I can prove my expenditure and what the car has had, highlights include;
- Full MeisterR Sportives, set up and corner weighted by Roddisons of Sheffield
- RX8 yellow dot ARB's with new bushes
- Full wrap in 3m burnt orange
- EBC grooved discs with green stuff pads
- K&N high flow air filter with modified cold air intake
- Fully braced with an OEM 3 piece strut brace up front, ILM brace for the rear - both complement the coilovers really well.
- Full stainless steel cat-back exhaust with desirable cobalt back box, sounds beautiful, gives a lovely but civilised burble with the occasional pop between shifts.
- Fully stripped and undersealed in ‘Feb 22
- New clutch fitted by Roddisons in August ‘21
- Every single fluid has been changed twice
- Davefab header tank
- Custom flat bottom steering wheel
- Fog light retrofit
- Retrofit bluetooth hands free kit, with music playback
There’s loads of other smaller subtle interior upgrades too to give the car a real OEM+ feel, it’s a lovely place to be.
Other miscellaneous repairs include;
- new front calipers
- new rear lateral arms
- new rear trailing arms
- new rear subframe braces
- infamous rear inner quarters have been repaired properly
- new track rod ends
- new anti roll bar links
- new battery
- new thermostat and full coolant change
Again, loads of smaller less notable upgrades etc that all add up to make it a beautiful car.
It comes with a highly desirable hard top, and equally hard to find/ rare BBS Z-Sport alloys, fully refurbished/ powder coated with new, very good tyres, Toyo Proxes Tr1's. Have a look at item number SI4414 on MX5parts. co. uk to gain an idea of what these wheels set me back and their value.
I am prepared to sell the car without the hardtop and wheels and in this case I would be asking around £4500, you’ll obviously need to bring a set of wheels with you, though I could sort this out. For £4500 you’re still getting a mint car with several thousand pounds of extras and upgrades - happy to negotiate a deal.
The engine is sweet as a nut and more importantly doesn't burn oil, it's also had an oil change every 2k miles or so since I've owned the car, and I've never run it on anything other than Shell V-Power and it's always been kept in a dry heated garage.
To give you an idea of condition and wider market valuation, it's currently insured with Adrian Flux on an agreed valuation policy for £9k (again, happy to prove this), but this basically means it would cost £9k at a minimum to replace with an equivalent vehicle.. Another way to look at it is I could write it off and still get £9k for it.
However, like many projects, we do these things for our own love and enjoyment, not in the hope of ever making a profit, and I don't expect to get my money back, I think I'm being realistic in asking for £6250. I’ve arrived at this price simply on the basis that if I was to remove the more expensive bits (wheels, roof, coilovers, backbox) and sell them separately I’d expect to achieve the same amount overall. The backbox is also a rarer item and if stock was available, which it rarely is, you’re looking at roughly £330 last time I checked.
The only notable issue is a small graze on the drivers door leading edge where the door was opened against a wall, and otherwise just the usual stone chips etc you’d find on any car.
Please feel free to come and see it and draw your own conclusion - it’s a complete one off and you won’t find another one like it.
Test drives are welcome but you need to show proof of your insurance, at a minimum your 3rd party entitlement, which nearly all policies include nowadays as standard by default. In the absence of this I will be doing the driving.
As an added bonus, I’ve got pretty much all of the original parts that I’ve removed from the car over the years, including countless bits of interior trim, suspension parts, springs, struts, anti roll bars, exhaust parts etc, these are all included as part of the sale for you to either sell, or if anything on the car isn’t to your taste you can easily return the car to standard spec. The wall mount kit for the hardtop will be included, I’ve also got a storage bag for it though it’s a little tatty.
I don’t think I’ve missed anything, but give me a shout if I have.
