Sadly, the time has come to sell my Nissan Pao. A much loved car, but I struggle to make the time to get to as many shows and events as I should - and the cost of keeping it in storage doesn’t help things!
It’s far from a mint car, but with loads of character and plenty of swaps from standard. It would suit a tinkerer more than a polisher, if that makes sense?!The good
My Pao’s fairly unusual in being both hard top and manual, but the CG13 engine swap is the most notable difference. This came from a 1993 K11 Micra and had a decent cleanup, new cam chains/ guides/ spark plugs and paint before being swapped into the Pao by Dynodaze in Nuneaton. It retains the standard Pao manual gearbox. A dyno run puts it just short of 100hp, plenty for this wee little thing!
It has a Figaro fuel tank and pump, Almera injectors and a custom intake. It runs a hybrid loom, with the K11 Micra ECU tucked in the passenger footwell. Dynodaze built an exhaust using a Gizfab manifold. I’ve recently had a quieter back box made by Cobra in Sheffield, which is now on the car. The louder Gizfab one is a bolt off/ bolt on option and is included.
I have recently replaced the temp sensor, thermostat and radiator, which has solved a slight overheating issue when sat in summer traffic.
It sits on VW Golf steel wheels which have been powder coated to match the silver metalwork on the car. H&N spacers help this sit better with the arches. I have a fifth which you could fit a tyre to and use as a spare. The 4 wheels on the car are fitted with Toyo Proxes CF2 tyres, all with excellent tread

Original front fog light bar and lamps (not wired in) - this was badly rusted and has been repaired
Original cassette radio. This doesn’t pick up UK stations, but I have added a Bluetooth receiver.
The bad
The car is loud - with no real silencing to speak of and some very rigid poly-mounts for the engine. Depending on how much you like the attention, this may be something a prospective buyer looks to change.
It’s an ongoing project! While the car starts and runs well, there are plenty of things that you may wish to finish off
Front fog lights aren’t fitted/ wired in
Rear windows have non-standard catches. I have another set of windows that could be swapped in.
Slightly odd front plate, perhaps a smaller Japanese style plate would suit better
Keys are well worn, but functional
Small areas of rust, as ever with a car of this age. Specifically the N/ S sill, small bits on both rear arches and surface rust on bumpers etc.
The ugly
This car is far from cosmetically perfect, with the odd area of rust and a couple of small dints (please see photos)
The main point is the offside rear quarter panel, which was repainted by a previous owner. The wrong paint has been used, which has reacted badly and created a strange, almost leathery textured effect. It’s a little bit “rat look” and in keeping with the car - but may not be to everyone’s taste and I’d rather be honest from the outset! It’s hard to photograph, but again - please see the photos.
