The Car

As stated in the history column, this 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 has covered just 27, 500 miles from new and following an extensive restoration and rebuild is now ready to take the next owner back in time to the golden age of classic British sports cars.

The third generation Big Healey was produced for just four years between 1963 and 1967 with this late model Phase 2 example being one of the last to be produced.

At the heart of this classic sports car is a 2912cc British Motor Corporation 'C-series' engine that produces 148hp from it's six cylinders. This particular iteration of the engine was upgraded with a higher lift camshaft and SU HD8 carburettors which meant it was able to produce more power than the earlier version found in the phase 1 cars .

The fantastic engine is mated to a four speed manual transmission with an overdrive function and delivers a charismatic exhaust note as its taken through the gears. This all works together to provide the real deal when it comes to the classic Big Healey experience that made it so popular at the time.

The cosmetics

Cosmetically speaking, the hard work and perseverance of the restoration efforts are reflected in the cars visual condition. The full body respray brings the car to life with the classic two tone combination of Colarado-Signal Red over black as a secondary colour. The two tone paint work is, for many, an essential part of the Austin-Healey's identity and is instantly recognisable on the road.

The chrome components are in excellent shape and really stand out against the red and black backdrop that is the body of the car. From the prominent grille and bumpers to the smaller touches like the badges and filler cap, the chrome work helps make the car shine as it should.

Moving on to the wheels the car is sitting on the optional 15 inch wire wheels wrapped in chunky era appropriate tyres. This style of wheel has become synonymous with classic cars from the era and these ones really do look the part under the well crafted body of the BJ8.

Inside the car you will find the original black leather seats which were polished as part of the cars restoration process. The decision to leave these original seats in places offers and authentic feel to the interior of the car as well as being a comfortable place to sit and relax as you admire the work in the rest of the cabin.

The walnut dash houses an array of dials and clocks that take you back to a time when analogue was the order of the day with each having its own purpose in the operation of the car. Just in front of that dash you will notice the three spoke Mona Lita steering wheel which takes the place of the original but looks every bit as good.

Of course being a convertible the car comes with a folding roof. The folding roof on this car has been reupholstered in black and is easily removable when the summer weather arrives.

In conclusion

In conclusion this is a great chance to own a genuine 1960's classic that is not only in excellent condition thanks to a thorough restoration but is also steeped in history and prestige. This stunning example offers the new owner an authentic experience from the golden age of British sports cars with the knowledge and reassurance that the car is prepared for the roads of today.

We are proud to offer this vehicle for viewing by appointment and look forward to meeting the new owner in due time.

Please note that we are selling this vehicle on behalf of a long term customer of E&J Jarvis LTD on an 'as seen' basis and are facilitating a private sale in this instance. The History

This stunning example of the 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 is presented in excellent condition with just under 27, 500 miles on the clock from new and a fully documented rebuild.

The car originated from the United States of America whereby it spent most of its early life in California before being moved to Oregon prior to being imported to the United Kingdom. All import and VAT fees have been paid on this car for your peace of mind.

In 2012 the decision was taken to strip the vehicle entirely in preparation for a ground up rebuild
in which no expense was spared with high quality, original specification parts being supplied. This took 692 man hours to complete.

This included a total engine rebuild to Brett Simms Motorsport ‘Fast Road’ enhancement specification in which the block was stripped back, overhauled and fitted with new internal components before being tuned professionally. This comprehensive work included almost every engine component being either restored or replaced.

A competition clutch was installed, a new flywheel was added and a new exhaust system was fitted complete with hardened exhaust valve seats as part of an unleaded conversion so that the car can be run on modern E5 fuel.

The mechanical rebuild extended far beyond the engine with the entire car receiving a refresh front to back. This covered rewiring the electronics, refreshing the brake system and replacing all of the pipework throughout the vehicle.

In conjunction with it's full mechanical restoration, the car was also treated to a full cosmetic restoration as well. This included stripping the bodywork back to bare metal and carrying out a full body respray in the cars original colour scheme as well as replacing the chrome parts with fresh new components.

There is a large collection of receipts, invoices and other paperwork to correlate with the rebuild as well as notes and photographs taken during the process which was carried out by an experienced motor engineer.

Since the total rebuild this beautiful machine has covered less than 500 miles and has been driven sparingly both for pleasure and routine maintenance. The car has received an annual service every year regardless of mileage covered by the current owner who is a private collector and keeps the car garaged and under a custom fitted cover when not in use (which we will supply with the vehicle).
