1998 Lotus Elise S1 - Recent Extensive Maintenance

I have owned this Elise S1 for 18 months, contributing mechanical improvements to a cosmetic enhancements completed by the previous owner.

This is a fantastic example of an early S1 Elise, reconditioned to the ultimate fast-road specification; minimum weight, retaining MMC brakes with a fully refreshed interior and soft top. It is an absolute joy to drive, having been set-up neutrally to provide perfectly balanced handling.

A newborn forces sale, with its replacement already purchased. This Elise is currently SORN and in dry storage. It will be given a fresh MOT for the new owner if the asking price is met, or I can arrange transport through a reputable local company.

This Lotus Elise S1 is a tastefully upgraded example of the finest British sports can of the last 25 years. It benefits from significant recent recommissioning maintenance and would make a welcome addition to any collection. Exterior and Drivetrain

● Titanium paint, presenting in good condition. There is some osmosis to the front clam and top of the drivers door, and a depression in the aluminium boot lid.
● Brand new Allon White soft top, it has never seen rain.
● Refurbished staggered (15 – 16”) five-spoke alloy wheels framing re-painted silver brake callipers, and shod in Yokohama Advan Neova AD08R tyres.
● New number plates with period correct font
● The suspension has been fully refreshed less than 2, 000 miles ago with new ball joints, bushes, damper mounts, the Nitron Clubsport coilovers, and anti-roll bars
● Additionally, plenty of preventative maintenance was carried out on common Elise weak points; a new radiator, remote thermostat, handbrake cable, headlamps and seals, door pins, and stainless-steel fixings.

Interior
● Fully re-trimmed black leather and Alcantara seats (with ProBax inserts), door cards and horn pad by Allon White.
● Optional stereo blank dash fascia, with stereo and matching fascia included
● Alloy indicator stalks
● Mild wear on the steering wheel, and minor blemishes on the trim, though the cabin presents well overall.

History

● Accompanied by the original brochures, owner’s handbook, and service booklet, two keys, the V5C, a leather-bound Lotus-branded A4 ring binder with nearly £5, 000 worth of maintenance invoices, the soft-top instructions, tracker documentation, and the original bill of sale.
● The original Cobra alarm siren has been removed, though will be included in the sale.
● The most recent MOT test was on 21 July 2022 at 61, 260 miles, and was a second-time pass with an advisory for the windscreen being marked but not adversely on the driver’s side, following attention to the front registration plate. Both faults were corrected at the time of MOT.
● In my ownership the recent maintenance includes MMC brake pads, a brake calliper refurbishment, new brake fluid, replacement aerial gasket and gear shift linkage, headlight covers, fuel cap gasket, and a new second key. A full service was conducted less than 2, 000 miles ago, which consisted of an engine oil and oil filter change (Fuchs Titan Race), as well as the fitment of a new air filter and spark plugs.
● The previous engine oil service was carried out in October 2021 at 60, 810 miles and the remainder of the cars service history is fully documented.
