2003 Porsche Boxster 986. 2 2. 7l

This is a 'Mark 2' version of the 986 Boxster with locking glovebox and centre console storage, and a heated glass screen in the hood.

97, 179 miles - currently SORN'd for the winter. Wonderful colour combination of Meridian Metallic with Metropol Blue hood and Metropol Blue leather interior. MOT until 11 May 2024. Owned by TIPEC member. Private number plate NOT included in sale. New number FC03HPU has been assigned, so MOT history can be found under that number.

The selling price includes a new MOT which will arranged after the sale is agreed.

The overall condition is excellent in almost every respect. The paintwork is original and well cared for with only minor use related blemishes. The hood is in excellent condition and functions perfectly.

Full service history, with all maintenance invoices from a Porsche specialist since I bought the car in December 2018, and assorted invoices of work done by previous owners. Since I bought it it has had the following work done, evidenced by invoices:

Jan 2019 - Minor service. Brake fluid change. Gearbox oil change
May 2019 - Suspension refresh: replace front and rear coffin arms and fork arms, replace front drop links. 4 wheel alignment.
March 2020 - replace low pressure aircon pipe and re-gas
April 2021 - Major service. Replace spark plugs. Replace front and rear disks, pads & sensors and handbrake shoes
October 2021 - Replace clutch. Replace brake lines from block to front and block to rear. Brake fluid change. Replace rear main oil seal. IMS bearing inspected; garage report "In mint condition and no need for replacement". Replace IMS seal.
April 2023 - Minor service

A lot has been written about IMS bearing issues on these engines. The Porsche specialist garage I have used for all maintenance on this car (so it is well known to them) has inspected the bearing and reported in writing that the IMS bearing on this engine does not require replacing.

While the engine and gearbox were out for the brake lines and clutch replacement I had the exhaust box centre seams re-welded, so that is now blow free and good for a long time to come. Additionally I have had the headlamps polished and the wheels refurbished. The headrest wind deflectors were absent and the centre wind deflector scratched, so those were replaced with original Porsche parts.

I had fitted a Pioneer AVH-Z5100DAB head unit which supports Apple Car Play and Android Auto via USB in the glovebox (not bluetooth), and replaced the paper cone speakers in the dashboard with Pioneer G-Series TS-G1020F speakers and the door mounted speakers with Pioneer TS-A1670F speakers.

The only immediate issue is that the aircon lcd control display has bled in the bottom right corner - it was actually like that when I bought the car and I haven't got round to sorting it out. It doesn't affect the function of the aircon in any way - it's simply a display.

There are 2 keys. The remote locking doesn't work on one of them (not just a battery issue I think), but that one works perfectly well manually.

All in all it's a lovely car. It's been garaged overnight since I bought it, and has been somewhat cosseted by being SORN'd over winter to avoid salt, and rarely goes out in the rain. It drives superbly with no suspension noise whatsoever.

More high resolution pictures are available. Ask me for a link if you're interested.

As mentioned above it's currently SORN'd, but I would be willing to tax it to enable a test drive if anyone were seriously interested. Potential buyer can test drive with me as passenger subject to verifiable evidence of identity and fully comprehensive insurance. Otherwise I'll be happy to take you out in it.

If the sale is transacted through Car And Classic then no offers will be considered - the price is fixed and any lower offer will be rejected. If the transaction is made privately then the price will be lowered to £5950.

This is a very genuine car in original and excellent condition. I need the garage space, but if it doesn't sell it will be put into storage rather than be sold at a lower price. When I bought this I was more concerned about the overall appearance of the car than any work it might need, and have had the pleasure of having it returned to pretty close to standard. It had a short shift gear change that was actually set up for a lhd car, so first and second gears were about level with the edge of the passenger seat - a real bodge job! - but easily remedied. The wheels had been spray painted matt black, which peeled off when I replaced the ditchfinder tyres that it came with. There was more, but I'm sure you get the picture.

It's always been good to drive, but since the brakes and clutch were done about 18 months ago it has been an absolute delight, and is a very original 968. 2. No, it's not concourse, but it looks lovely, sounds like Porsche intended, and what's more drives like they intended as well. For a 20 year old car, though I say it myself having both put the work in, and had the work put in, it's pretty damn good!
