My BMW 635csi, for sale. It is with a very heavy heart that I’ve decided to let this car go; I am incredibly fond of it. It is one of the most iconic cars of the 1980s sitting on the affordable side of a Porsche 911 and was the pinnacle of the BMW range at a time when owning a BMW meant something. Today these cars continue to command huge respect, more so as the years pass and you see fewer of them. In my opinion there is also no colour better suited to a late 635 than Alpine white, as per this car.
Owned for 8 years, during which time I’ve used it sparingly during the summer months, driven to France and back twice without complaint and has served dutifully as my wedding car. If finances permitted I would without hesitation keep hold and continue with the handful of improvements it deserves and enjoy the summer using it. Last month the 6 underwent some extensive welding to structural areas and sill ends and now has an advisory free MoT; the tester commented on the excellent standard of the welding. Affected areas were treated with Schultz by way of future protection and fresh paint applied to the new metal. The car is now certainly very presentable but useable, not a concourse showpiece. Opinions on condition is a subjective matter, especially where a 35 year car is concerned, therefore I would implore anybody seriously interested to come and have a look and do your own appraisal. To my eyes the 6 looks stunning, save for a few small touched-in areas here and there.
Specification is as per factory 'Highline'. No doubt you're aware of what that consists of; lots of leather to all interior panels making it every bit worthy of its price tag back in 1988. The upholstery is original and has worn commensurate with age, the seat bolsters have not given up and collapsed like others you'll find and everything is in situ. Electric adjustment to the sport seats is working including extending under-thigh support which are very comfortable. The photographs of the interior appear darker in the back due to the sun blind being pulled up. There is an electric ariel and a cassette deck. The auto box kicks down correctly and similarly responds to the switchable Sport mode if you fancy burning some unwanted fuel. Two points to note: the electric sunroof tilts but doesn't slide and the seal requires attention (replacement) as photographed. It doesn't leak. Secondly, the boot lid does not stay open and requires propping up - it's never bothered me but needs repairing if it bothers you.
There is a folder of receipts amounting to thousands of pounds over the years for your perusal. It's had the valve clearances adjusted whilst in my ownership at 148k along with replacement rocker cover gasket, water pump and oil changes since. One fantastic asset is a full stainless steel 'LongLife' branded exhaust, fitted in 2010 at a cost of £650. This provides a lovely deep burble at idle and sounds fantastic up in the revs without being intrusive.
A new battery was fitted during the repairs last month so it's ready to be driven away, enjoyed and hopefully cherished. Two keys. The numberplate you see photographed has been retained and now reverts to: F497 BHF. It's a glorious car to waft around in, I always wanted one and didn't envisage letting it go. I don't know what'll fill the void, such is life. By that token - no silly offers, they will be ignored. I'm otherwise happy to respond to serious enquiries so please get in touch.
Thank you.
