For the uninitiated – the 1987 Porsche 924S is something of a hybrid – sitting between the Audi derived Porsche 924 & the later model 944 – Porsche having a number of 924 bodies left over with no further Audi engines. So they fitted their new 2’5 litre Porsche engine, along with other elements of the new 944, namely rear disc brakes – alloy semi trailing arms, TD wheel & power steering & named it the 924S!
This example is probably a 924S like no other – in that expenditure overtook value sometime ago – primarily to create a classic car fit & capable for the 21st century.
To that end the car has undergone a complete ‘below stairs’ transformation, in that all of the suspension, braking & exhaust system have been upgraded or replaced at a cost of some £11k – all invoices on file. Further, a complete new Porsche style interior complimented by a Nardi wood rim steering wheel & a media upgrade to full Apple Play, Bluetooth & Sat Nav display have been fitted. In addition, a rare sunroof protective cover – full original tool kit & Porsche Car Bone over mats – all at a further cost exceeding some £4k plus – again, all invoices on file. It has completed a mere 56k miles during its 36 years and still wears its original paint!
As for history – it was initially owned by one Elizabeth Smith for a period of some 30 years, & on her sad demise willed to her niece. It is a matching numbers car & has MOT certification back to inception – current to Oct. 2023. There is the original ‘bill of sale’ for the princely sum of £20, 433. 25 & a ‘Porsche Certificate of Production’. It was also voted ‘Car of the Week’ by Car& Classic magazine! Performance figs. still hold good with a detuned 150 bhp & a top speed of some 134 mph & a 0-60 at 8. 4 second with fuel consumption at a reasonable 32 mpg.
In conclusion, an immaculate example of a classic Porsche car re defined for use on today’s roads & at an affordable price. It is immaculate!!
