2006 BMW 335i M-Sport Touring, Manual. Silver with black leather interior. 9 Former Keepers. 2 Keys. Huge stack of history. MOT until 13th Feb 2024. 188k miles. 4x good tyres with plenty of life. Michelin PS4’s on the front and Bridgestone rear.

It’s a bit unusual this car. One of only 50 odd manual tourings that ever came to the UK and only 42 showing as still registered. Fantastic combination of practicality and driving involvement.

Spec as follows: M-sport Dakota leather interior with adjustable side bolsters. Auto lights and wipers. Auto dip mirror. Climate Control. Cruise control with brake function. I-drive with widescreen screen pro-sat + Bluetooth and voice control. DAB (OEM – unusual option). Front and rear parking sensors. Headlamp washers. Reversible boot floor. OE Plastic removable boot liner. Rear 12v Sockets. Light package (puddle lights on door handles etc). OE Rubber mats all round and a set of regular OE carpet mats included. The car is standard other than an Evolve Remap and a Quaiffe LSD.

I’m not a huge fan of selling cars so I would rather tell you everything I know about the car so there are no surprises when you view. I’ve actually only owned the car since early April. I had visions of making this absolutely perfect and using it as our family transport for many years to come but after years of owning 5-series, I’m just finding it too small for our needs and so I have bought yet another 5-series to replace it. Since owning the car I have set about sorting a few niggles and also doing some future proofing. Underneath, it’s had a new prop bearing and flex joint as well as all gear shift bushes changed. Gearbox and diff fluid have both been replaced. Various heat shields replaced, lots of rusty fixings replaced and a fair bit of Bilt Hamber rust proofing applied. I’ve replaced a lot of the AC system including the condenser and both main engine pipes. Air is lovely and cool now.

I also spent quite a bit of money and effort trying to resolve a VANOS issue where the car would throw up a check engine light from time to time and reduce boost. It could always be fixed with a quick off/ on of the engine but was frustrating. I ended up replacing both vanos solenoids and cam sensors but actually I think what finally solved it was replacing the oil filter and filter housing seals. I should have done that first in hindsight as it’s a common cause of these symptoms but since the other items are also common failures on the N54 engine, it seemed a good idea to do those too regardless. It has done approximately 300 miles since I did the filter and no check engine lights, I’m happy to report.

The car is lovely to drive. Lots of power, lovely gearshift and not terrible MPG, surprisingly. The car steers and brakes straight and true and rides okay too though I think the front drop links are making a little noise and one of the rear dampers has a damaged bump stop.

The paintwork is tatty in places. I think the front bumper has had a poor quality repair at some point and the lacquer is crazing on the nearside. The center grill on the front bumper has also had a chunk taken out of it. There is a scuff on the lower O/ S of the rear bumper too. Rear arches are showing early signs of corrosion and there are plenty of stone chips and the odd small ding elsewhere too. The headlights are a bit cloudy and could do with a proper polish. The windscreen has a small chip as well.

I had all four wheels stripped and powder coated when I got the car, replaced badges and rear plate etc to tidy things up a lot and the car looks fine from 10 feet away, I just want to paint an honest picture here.

If I had been keeping it long term, I’d have been planning some treatment to the rear arches, replacement of the lower bumper grille and then a front bumper respray. Perhaps some paint-less dent removal after that in a couple of areas to tidy things further. I think after that, you’d have a very presentable car for not a great deal of outlay.
Mechanically, the car seems very strong. It does have a small engine oil leak which seems most likely to come from the sump gasket which is common on these cars. It uses very little oil (about 1. 5 litres in the 5000 ish miles I have covered) so I wasn’t going to sort this immediately but its worth factoring in. I think it has a slight exhaust leak when cold though my local garage says it hasn’t! It seems to disappear as soon as the second exhaust valve opens which is about 20-30 seconds after a cold start. Like seemingly all BMW’s direct injection petrol sixes, it’s quite tappy at cold start idle. Sounds far better with a tiny bit of heat.

I’m located in County Durham. Happy for any inspections and test drives are fine too but only if you can provide evidence of fully comprehensive insurance. If not, I’m happy to take you out and I don’t drive like a lunatic!Stacks of history collated in a folder in date order. Dating back to 2006 and right up to this month.
