I've decided to cross this project of my 'to do' list. Javelins are magnificent, but it's my intention to just buy a fully functional one at some point in the not-too-distant.
I'd view it more as reassembly exercise than a restoration, as I like its patina.
The body and underbody are solid, having received inelegant but robust repairs in the past. The rear wings are freshly restored and lovely. The front wings and some doors have scabby bits, but they're easily repairable – or they could just be left alone.
Much of the light brown leather interior has been removed, but it's all there and is largely pretty good. The wooden dash is still in place.
The original engine is in bits and the major components have been deep-cleaned. The crankcase has been pressure-tested and declared good. Another engine is included. It isn't seized and is hopefully in better order than the original... I guess there's a chance that it'll be good to go with only minor fettling. The spare engine has Weber carburettors.
The steering and suspension seem reasonable.
The brakes were rebuilt by the Jowett Car Club at the 2015 Practical Classics Resto Show and will hopefully require nothing more than a fluid change, but a brand new set of seals and flexi-hoses is included.
There’s a new set of new suspension bushes from the Jowett Car Club, plus some other bits-and-pieces.
It also comes with large a quantity of used spares, including a gearbox, radiator, various suspension bits, etc.
The rear bumper, front grille, floorboards, fuel tank and various trim pieces missing in the photos are all present. I think the only component that's missing is the exhaust.
I have the buff logbook and an MoT from 1965, which should be enough to reclaim the original registration.
Viewing is most welcome.
