An excellent example of Jowett’s underrated Jupiter with only three owners from new.
This Jupiter is offered for the first time in over fifty years and has been fastidiously maintained by its last custodian.
An SA series model, the Jupiter was originally registered in Surrey on 2nd April, 1952.
The Jupiter presents very well in Italian Racing Red – a colour that suits it very much. There are a few age related marks but overall the paintwork is very good. The contrasting fawn interior is also very good and the matching hood is new. There is a tonneau cover and hood bag also.
The engine and gearbox have been reconditioned in the recent past – importantly retaining the original crankcase and oval web crankshaft. It has been fitted with Triumph pistons.
Also recently fitted are a new battery, stone guards, windscreen glass, stainless steel fuel tank and a large capacity radiator.
There have been a few modifications made to improve the car – namely the fitment of a Ford type constant velocity joint on the front of the propshaft to replace the layrub coupling, radial tyres, an SU electric fuel pump and Weber 32 ICH carburettors.
The brightwork is generally very good order as is the wooden dashboard and switches. All the instruments work correctly.
A test drive showed the car to be a good performer with the willing flat four engine keen to rev. The steering, handling and ride are all excellent while the four speed column change is a joy to use.
An original instruction book and advertising literature accompany the car.
