Description
This Series 1 Land Rover is finished in blue with white ‘Royal Navy’ lettering on its doors.
The rear of the vehicle has been modified to include a hand-operated Harvey Frost towing crane, as well as chequer-plate trim.
The vehicle is also fitted with a tow bar and electrics, period-correct auxiliary Lucas lighting on the rear of the cabin, a removable trailer board with auxiliary lighting and numberplate, a rear work light, and a roof-mounted beacon.
The three-seat interior is trimmed in blue vinyl and features a sliding rear window.
The vehicle is supplied with its V5C registration certificate, rear-mounted spare wheel, and removable trailer board.
CONDITION
There is no known bodywork damage.
The blue paintwork is in good overall condition, with some chips and minor indentations across the bodywork commensurate with its age.
Inside, the cabin is in good condition, and the owner believes that the seats have been restored. There is a light ‘patina’ on the controls and switchgear.
No mechanical or electrical faults have been detected, and the auxiliary lighting works correctly.
Due to its age, the vehicle is exempt from mandatory MOT testing.
SERVICE HISTORY
This Series 1 was last serviced in November 2017 by Land Rover specialist Candys 4x4, who carried out a recommissioning inspection. This included modifying the wheel drums and sleeves with new oil seals, making significant improvements to the rear suspension, fitting new rear springs and shackles, fixing a radiator leak, repairing the exhaust, and fitting a new axle pinion seal.
During the vehicle’s current ownership, minor electrical repairs have been made to the auxiliary lights, and a new fuel hose and headlight bulb have been fitted.
Servo-assisted brakes have been installed by a previous owner. This Series 1 is an interesting example of Land Rover’s seminal all-terrain 4x4, believed to have been originally delivered to the Royal Navy and fitted with a Harvey Frost towing crane. Having been restored in 2010 and subsequently recommissioned in 2017, this classic off-roader would make an unusual addition to any collection of Land Rovers, or a unique recovery vehicle for a classic car restoration firm. Starts and runs well.
