Descrição
This car was and still is my dream car, being nearly identical to the one I remember being driven around in by my Grandfather. I've come to the realisation that I am never going to get around to putting it back on the road where it deserves to be. I've owned this car for around 7 years and for most of that time, it has been in storage. I bought it from a father (original owner) and son (2nd owner) who used to drive his father around in it when he became unable to drive it.
The car is in near original condition, 1984 Mk2 Cavalier, 1. 6 L in Brazil brown. Becoming tax and mot exempt from next year(mot'd last in 2017). I would love to see this go to someone who is going to use and appreciate what a unique piece of history this vehicle is.
Mechanical
The engine has done 78k original miles and is the 1. 6 carb model receiving an auto-to-manual choke, using a period correct conversion kit. The fuel system needs flushing through as it has some old petrol inside it. I partially rebuilt the carb when I did the choke conversion, but could do with some final setup to get it running spot on. The engine runs lovely and has had most of the ignition system replaced during my ownership. It comes with a new cambelt set and water pump set, as I planned to change it for peace of mind.
I was working my way through replacing most of the suspension and brake components. It has a new set of dampers, track rods, brake pads and discs, steering gaiters and cv boots either fitted to the car or as new parts in the boot. The exhaust has a slight blow just where it joins the mid section. The tyres do hold air but could do with replacement as the are old, I believe these are the original rims with a spare and center caps.
The car when stored, drove faultlessly and when I had to move storage, with fresh fuel and battery fired straight up and drove under its own power. The gearbox is a 4-speed type with a good feel on the clutch. I did notice a wiff of petrol and it looks like it is coming from the fuel filler hose.
Bodywork
Being stored in a garage it has the usual minor bumps and chips you would expect from a 40 year old car. The seals have been repaired in the past but overall she is in sound condition. The only area I noticed needed addressing was the rear inner arches(inside boot area) I've given them a poke and it seems to be just surface rust, but I was planning on having them replaced anyway. All doors and boot close nicely with a satisfying cluck. At some point someone has sealed the front windscreen with clear silicon, it doesn't leak and has no signs of rust around this area. This is a non sunroof model. The front and real valances have some minor surface rust on them from stone chipping along with the leading edge of the bonnet.
Interior
The inside is like a timewarp, it has always had seat covers fitted and the material underneath is in good condition. The carpet is dirty but not torn and the headling is where it should be. The door bins have broken, but this never bothered me as it gave me more legroom. The dashboard has non cracks, but the glove box straps are broken. It has only front seatbelts, and a lovely Clunk Click Every Trip sticker. It has keep fit windows and manual locking doors.
The car comes with lots of spares and some paperwork. I also have 2 spare carbs for it as I bought them as a job lot. I'm sure there is a lot I have forgotten to mention and I will answer serious questions as best as I can. The car is in storage approximately 15 miles from my home but can be seen by prior arrangement. I don't want to sell the car, but I also want it to be used and on the road where it should be. I've accepted that I won't be the person to do this due to other family commitments. I was not sure how to value the car but feel this is a reasonable price for its condition and age. No silly offers. The first photos show how nicely she polishes up.
