EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES
• This SL55 AMG is finished in the ever-popular Mercedes-Benz hue of Brilliant Silver metallic over a black and anthracite leather-trimmed cabin, offset by grey contrast stitching and silver trim inserts.
• It rides on a set of 18-inch multi-spoke AMG alloy wheels, housing silver brake callipers and wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tyres, which are noted to have between 4 and 6mm of tread remaining.
• Factory-fitted equipment includes the AMG styling pack, a panoramic folding glass roof, heated and electrically adjustable seats with a massage function and three-position memory, a premium Bose sound system, cruise control with speed limiter, and push-button start.
• Included in the sale is the original owner’s book pack, including the duplicate stamped maintenance record with stamps dating from 2006, as well as a vast selection of maintenance invoices and historic MOT certificates, one standard key, and one keyless fob.
CONDITION
• Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition.
• There are a few stone chips around the front end of the car and on the lip of the bonnet, slight bubbling of paint on the passenger rear wheel arch, and a small scratch on the rear bumper. The paint is generally in good condition but it would benefit from some attention. The interior is in very good condition, with slight wear on the driver’s seat as to be expected based on the usage and age of the vehicle.
• I am not aware of any electrical or mechanical faults.
• The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 15 July 2023 at 92, 339 miles resulting in a pass, with advisories for both front tyres being damaged, cracking or perishing.
SERVICE HISTORY
• This SL55 AMG’s latest service was performed in February 2023 at 91, 483 by Mercedes-Benz Waterhouse in Chelmsford. The work comprised of an A service with an engine oil and filter change, along with the replacement of the nearside front upper wishbone, and the heater panel.
• Prior to this it was serviced in May 2021 at 86, 934 miles, which comprised of an engine oil change, and replacement of the coolant, spark plugs, and air filter, which was carried out by Mercedes-Benz specialist Hampshire Service Centre.
• The same workshop serviced the car in July 2020 at approximately 82, 000 miles, and performed an engine oil and filter change, along with the replacement of the water pump, engine belts, and the engine and gearbox mounts, as well as a wheel alignment.
• In December of the same year the car’s discs and pads were also replaced.
• It received a minor service during July 2017 at Monarch Mercedes-Benz specialist.
• The seller notes that during their 18-month ownership the heater control unit was replaced, as was the passenger electric seat unit.
SUMMARY
This R230-generation SL55 AMG is a solid example of Mercedes-Benz’s early noughties folding hard-top roadster. Boasting a potent supercharged V8, a generous standard specification, and a Mercedes-Benz main dealer and specialist service history, this SL55 should make a wonderful long-distance companion, and an ideal vehicle for sunny weekend drives with the roof folded down. A perfect example of a modern classic in my opinion. Extremely comfortable, convertible, electrically operated folding hard-top, great engine, Bose sound system, good boot storage, a perfect cruiser.
