The Mercedes Sport-Leicht or Sport-Light in English has been the flag ship Mercedes-Benz grand touring sports car for as long as we can remember. This particular model is no exception the R230deriving from the Formula 1 pace cars programme used from 2001 to 2006. Boasting a 5. 5 litre supercharged V8 pushing out493 bhp and 516 Ib/ ft of torque. This would propel the car 0-60 in 4. 7 seconds and taking it all the way to 186MPH which is pretty quick by even todays standards and sure would have been a rocket ship back 20 years ago…… infact itis crazy to think that this car is 20 years old it sure doesn’t look it. The F1performance package sharpened the SL55 further with features such as larger brakes, retuned suspension, lightweight wheels and increased top speed, creating one of the most desirable specifications available.
With its blend of long distance capability and outright pace, the SL55 AMG found favour with enthusiasts and collectors alike, and well maintained examples remain highly sought after.
This car was a UK supplied car in 2005, finished in Telerium silver with black anthracite leather. This example has had only three private owners from new, with one trader in between. The original keeper, a high net worth individual and garage franchise owner, used the car primarily for annual continental runs to Monaco and Geneva, accounting for the bulk of the 56, 000 miles accrued under his ownership.
