Description
The vehicle is a Barker Bodied Limousine with a partition between the driver's compartment and the rear passengers. In the rear passenger compartment there are also two concealed folding chairs which were once used for the first owners children but large enough for adults. The car was originally purchased new, by Lady Beatrice Carew-Pole of Anthony House, Torpoint, Cornwall direct from the Rolls-Royce dealers in London. The present owner visited Anthony House, (now National Trust) and spoke to the son of the original owner (who still lives in the house but was in the process of moving out) who remembers the car, and being taken out in it. As a result of this meeting, the original "Guarantee Certificate" for the car was produced and passed on to the very grateful, present owner.
The Carew-Pole family employed a chauffeur named, Boyce who looked after the car and was honoured to chauffeur a young Princess Margaret around the area when she visited with her parents, the King and Queen.
Over the years there have been various owners of the car including high ranking RAF personnel before becoming a wedding car for a company in Scotland who then sold it to the present owner in 2010.
The present owner has been meticulous in bringing the car back to life with no expense spared. The car has been featured in a recent article in the magazine "Rolls-Royce & Bentley Driver".
The present owner has had the front driver's compartment completely refurbished with new leather work and carpeting, the rear luggage box has been replaced, the car has been MOT'd each year, (it is exempt from MOT's due to age) to be able to inspect and check underneath, with the MOT examiner, for any problems. Each winter, the water in the radiator has been replaced, as was the engine oil. The carburettor has been overhauled as has the one shot pump. The correct/ proper ignition coil was sourced, rewired, and then fitted to replace the none original one. Nice twin trumpet horns have been fitted to replace the ones that went missing on purchase. The semaphores were repaired and made to work with the mini indicators which were fitted front and rear for safety. The front screen has been refurbished and now is able to open as it was meant to when new. The brakes have been relined, a new clutch and the suspension has had the correct gaiters fitted. The petrol tank has been completely refurbished and inline fuel filters added. The two rear fitted jacks have been overhauled and work properly, but no jack or jacks were fitted to the front from new. A new stainless steel exhaust has been fitted together with a new exhaust manifold when the old one developed a crack. Much, much more has been carried out over the years too numerous to mention here, but all documents and invoices are kept in two large files. There is also a quantity of spares to go with the sale.
The car starts and runs very well and is a pleasure to drive. A large part of the refurbishment of the car has been carried out by professional Rolls-Royce/ Bentley firms to a high standard and the normal service routine carried out by the present owner. As stated the car was ordered by Lady Beatrice Carew-Pole in 1935 and used by the family for quite a few years until being sold. The car then had various owners until ending up in Scotland at a wedding car company. There it was used for a few years and professionally serviced before being sold to the present owner, in Warwickshire.
The present owner has spent time and money on refurbishing the car to a very good standard and has had a number of years enjoyable motoring.
The next custodian of the car will love the real presence it has on the road, it turns heads and when travelling through villages/ towns it puts smiles on peoples faces and even the odd salute from various AA/ RAC patrolmen. If necessary the car can be used as a wedding car, such is the style and presence it has of a "Bygone Age".
