1993 Peugeot 205 GL
1. 1
Petrol
Manual
77, 000 miles
MOT until September 2024
I purchased this 205, known as Jeff, earlier in the year from the previous owner who'd owned since 2016. If you check Youtube for Peugeot 205 Jeff you can find numerous videos on work done by him to the car over the years.
At the point of buying the car had been stood for 6 months unused and MOT expired. I carried out the following work following an initial MOT failure -
New Bosch windscreen wipers front & rear
New washer jet motors front & rear
Rear drum brake shoes and cylinders replaced
Oil catch tank on breather
Oil & filter change
New battery
New drive shaft
A few other recent additions have been a replacement GTI style gear knob, replacement radio with bluetooth and wiring of front fog lights to a front fog switch.
Other than the front GTI style bumper and fogs, the car is completely standard. It has the original dealer number plate on the rear and also a sticker in the back window from the Western-super-mere dealership it was purchased from.
Interior -
Fantastic condition, the upholstery is free from stains, rips and is as close to new as a 30 year old car can be.
Exterior -
I would describe it as good but not perfect. Most would say the car is in fantastic condition which at first glance it is, but I prefer to be more realistic in that it does have some small imperfections like the odd scratch and previous paint repairs. The pictures illustrate the car well but it's not concourse, nor is it a shed.
Mechanical -
It just works. Simple engineering, has been well maintained and used regularly meaning the car doesn't let you down. I have a short commute and have been using it daily including the odd longer motorway journey without issue. It is only a 1. 1 but the lack of weight and simplicity makes it feel faster than it is, but has no trouble keeping up with modern traffic and breaking speed limits as long as you give it a long run-up.
Major service including timing belt & water pump, also head gasket and head skimmed in 2019 (5, 000 miles ago)
There is a folder of paperwork listing work done over the years, head gasket, gearbox replacement etc. Illustrating the care and preventative maintenance done to keep this car a usable everyday classic.
I haven't owned the car long, but I've gotten to know it well and am fond of it. My reason for sale is requiring funds for another car purchase. I bought Jeff without really 'needing' him and I'm likely to not use him much over the coming months with owning multiple other cars so whilst he is now sorted with a long MOT he's ready for a new home.
Included with the sale are a set of 14 inch steel wheels that are ripe for painting white and putting tyres on if you wanted to go for the Rallye look.
I have no urgency to sell so I will not be accepting lowball offers. I also don't require another car so swaps are unlikely, though I can be tempted if it's something interesting.
