I purchased this Daimler on the basis of the work done: the underside body, suspension and brakes look really good. The engine sounds great and the interior is quite presentable. New rear leaf springs and battery just fitted, new front coils will come with car. There are over £4900 of receipts with the car. The previous owner did a thread of all work done: - details above...

"When I purchased this Daimler in spring 2019, it had been off the road since the mid 80s. Over the following 18 months the car underwent a complete nut and bolt rebuild and sympathetic restoration. It is now a mechanically excellent very usable classic car. I have done approx 5, 000 miles in it since the work was completed. Having enjoyed the car for a couple of years I am now ready for a change, and hope the car can go on to give a new owner as much pleasure as it has me.
The body shell is very solid. During the restoration any rust I could find was cut out and clean metal was welded in properly. This was done to a good standard, I have photographs documenting the work should a buyer wish to see. Repairs included a new passengers front frame rail, repairs to the front crossmember and crows feet, a new passengers sill, repairs to all 4 doors and complete replacement of both rear spring mounts.
The body was partially re-sprayed, and shines up relatively well. Some of the areas that were not painted are showing their age a little now, with a couple of small bubbles and cracks starting, especially around the front valance and rear spats. The lower edge of the boot lid has some rust. Sadly also the clear coat on the bonnet and front edge of the roof is damaged. The chrome work is all complete and original, it looks good from a distance but upon close inspection is quite pitted.
The engine was completely rebuilt. The original matching numbers engine block (included with the car for possible repair) was frost damaged and so a replacement was sourced. It was bored +60 and fitted with new pistons and bearings. The heads had the common corrosion to the cooling galleries welded up and were rebuilt with new valves, valve guides and modern style valve stem seals. I have receipts for this work. The engine starts easily and runs well with no smoke or nasty noises! An upgraded aluminium radiator and electric fan are fitted. The carbs are currently jetted to the Daimler 250sp spec, with open air filters, which just lets a bit of extra v8 sound come through when you put your foot down! The exhaust is also modified with aftermarket silencers, they are not really much louder than standard but have a nice tone.
The gearbox was also completely rebuilt with new seals, thrust bearings and clutch discs. It is fitted with a modified valve body giving the P-R-N-D-2-1 shift pattern rather than the original P-R-N-D2-D1 shift pattern.
During the rebuild the suspension was completely stripped and rebuilt, with all new rubber bushes and ball joints. The car sits lower than standard, with shorter front springs and de-arched rear leaves. It is riding on GAZ adjustable performance dampers, and handles very well for a car of its size and age! The tyres were replaced when the car was restored, they have plenty of tread on them.
The car is fitted with aftermarket upgraded 4 pot brake callipers up front, and E-type rear brakes. Along with braided brake lines, a new master cylinder, new hard lines and a rebuilt servo they stop the car confidently!
The interior was completely overhauled and is now a very pleasant place to sit. New carpets, headlining and door cards are fitted on top of several layers of modern sound proofing. The original seats were repaired and dyed black to go with the new door cards. The wood work was given a sympathetic restoration, the original veneers being retained where possible and all refinished with new clear coat with a gentle sheen. An android double DIN head unit is fitted out of sight where the glovebox was previously located.
I have the full V5 in my name, and many receipts for parts I?ve bought and work I?ve had done. The odometer reads approx 49, 600 miles. Judging by the wear on the original engine block I presume this to be correct (rather than 149, 000!) but I have no proof of this. I have tried to be honest with my description. As you can see it?s a very good car, ready to be driven and enjoyed regularly, but not concourse perfect."
From driving the car for the first time in the rain, it could do with new windscreen wipers, they are leaving the windows streaky, I also noticed some differential whine at lower speeds. The reason I am selling the car is I purchased the car for my elderly father as he had a similar car many years ago, I wanted a reliable good looking car for him, the paintwork is really poor, crazing, cracking and some scabs. The structural rust is done but I suspect there will be some bodywork needing fettling when tidying the paintwork. I wanted a car he could use now that looked good, the paintwork really lets the car down.
Overall it appears to be a good solid car with a presentable interior and the mechanicals done.
