In the mid-00s, Volvo released the Ocean Race edition to help promote their sponsorship of the round-the-world yacht race. These unique cars came with a bespoke deep blue exterior colour, blue interior aluminium trims, and “upholstery in materials resembling exclusive yacht clothes”.
This example has lived most of its life in Japan, only being registered for UK use in February 2023; it hasn’t experienced any wintery English roads. I have spent a fair bit of money giving it a mini rejuvenation, so It is now ready to be enjoyed by you.
Built in December 2005, it was sent over to Japan. It stays in Japan until the start of this year. There is an array of Japanese paperwork handbooks, and a service book are included, but it is all in Japanese,
English handbooks are also for future owners. The last piece of Japanese history is the Export Certificate. It was then registered in the UK in February 2023.
They have had the bespoke blue paintwork touched up in places
One of the more expensive jobs they have completed is the addition of the BBS split rim alloys sourced, restored, and wrapped with new Nankang tyres; all in this wheel restoration process cost around £1, 000.
I have also fitted a new radio head unit due to the Japanese radio being unable to work here. Also fitted OEM UK Volvo dials, meaning the read-out is in miles, not kilometres. The KM’s figure on the original odometer was cloned onto the new odometer
One amazing detail that cannot be overlooked is that I kept all the original parts. This means you can return the car to its original condition if you wish to. The originality of the V70 Ocean Race should not be overlooked; it could be the best example in the UK.
Inside, this V70 is in fantastic condition. The leather seats are in excellent condition throughout. You might expect some wear and tear on the driver’s seat, but no such wear is on show.
This driver seat is electrically operated with a memory function. The two front seats are also heated, a must-have as we head into the colder months. The car’s rear bench seat is presented very well and looks nice and comfortable; in between the two rear seats, you’ll find the usual pull-down central armrest with integrated cup holders. Usually, a V70 of this age would come with silver aluminium trim, but this is replaced with blue trim in the Ocean Race, which is all in excellent condition.
In addition, I changed the wheel to the more desirable 3-spoke steering wheel; this looks so much better than the original 4-spoke wheel (this original will come with the car). Also, a new Kenwood radio head unit offering phone connectivity, Alexa built-in, and DAB radio is an excellent modern addition; the original Japanese radio has been kept and will come with the car; the surround black plastic trims on the centre console and dashboard are all in good condition.
The current owner has fitted some heavy-duty over mats on the floor to protect the carpets. On the roof and pillars, the headlining is in good condition. The air conditioning has been re-gassed and is now blowing ice-cold air. With more than enough space for any activity, it is convenient. Under the boot floor, you’ll find a space-saver spare wheel and jack.
There is something about a Volvo estate that makes it inherently cool; Its sculpted front end leads neatly into its practical boxy rear end. Its bespoke Ocean Race Blue paint and BBS split rim alloys make this example even cooler.
In terms of external condition, this V70 is presented in excellent condition; the deep blue paint still sparkles in the sunlight today.

, the original alloys have been kept and will also come with the car.
I have installed OEM front fog lights, and all other lights are in excellent condition.
Overall, this V70 is presented in exceptional exterior condition
The combination of blue and silver works very well, allowing this V70 to stand out.
I have also opted to have the car carbon-cleaned. This process sucks out all of the carbon from the engine and has made a big difference in performance.
V70s are usually presented with significant mileage figures; however, this V70 Ocean Race is not; with only 77, 000 miles on the clock, it should be good for a few more. A quick peak underneath didn’t flag up any large areas of rust or other damage. Overall, this Volvo V70 is in excellent mechanical condition and ready for any adventure.
I am a fastidious in bringing this up to their exacting standard; this means you’re about to inherit an immaculate example that you can happily display anywhere.
