Beschreibung
In the mid -1950s, the Mercedes commercial vehicle lineup included large trucks and buses, as well as small, city-type delivery vehicles. Medium duty trucks such as the Opel Blitz were selling well and Mercedes Benz wanted in on the action.
The L 319 and its bus counterpart the O 319 debuted in 1955 to take on the middle-weight market. It featured a front engine “forward control” arrangement with a large glasshouse and pleasing styling. The well established 180D OM636 4 cylinder diesel motor was mated with a four speed column shift manual gearbox. An array of bodies were available, from delivery vans to flatbeds to small buses. The stylish and versatile L/ O 319 proved a great success for Mercedes and established them as leaders in the medium duty truck market.
This Example:
The interior is intact and shows patina with some wood behind the driver’s seat that will need replacement.
The chassis is in good condition with no signs of damage or major corrosion. The cab does have corrosion, the roof area will require metal work.
The engine is in perfect working order with good compression. The transmission is in excellent condition and shifts easily without any gear grinding. The brakes requires attention. This Camper was in long term ownership for more than 30 years. I bought the vehicle from the estate of the previous owner.
This example is a truly unique find being a right hand drive camper. This old girl is in original, unrestored condition and boasts an aray of period correct accessories such as a gas fridge, a gas oven and fold away bed.
