Description

This motorbike is not one of the 17 made before the war but a post-war rebuilt. Restored in 1995 in Germany, it was authenticated in 1996 in Germany as an R51 RS with the parts corresponding to this model, but with a set of R51 / 2 crankcases. It is in perfect condition and was purchased as is by our collector. This very rare BMW will only need to be restarted.

Link to the auction on 3 February 2024 at 5pm available on our Mirabaud&Mercier website and on the Drouot online auction site. BMW made just 17 motorbikes inspired by the pre-war compressor, which the factory entrusted to young riders in order to find and train the future riders the brand needed. After the Second World War, competition was relaunched in Germany and motorcycles had to be found. Motorbikes had to be found, and the racers of the time went to great lengths to find and assemble motorbikes and parts that were still available. This motorbike is the result of these post-war assemblies. After restoration in 1995 and authentication in 1996, it was found to be well assembled, with original R51 RS parts and a set of R51/ 2 engine crankcases.
It is a true racing motorbike, with its magnesium double-cam front hub and specific cylinders, and an extra set of specific aluminium cylinders will be supplied with the bike. N. B.: RS for RennSport.
