Description
1985 JAGO JEEP
What a vehicle this is! a 1985 Jago Jeep (Geep) kit car, this particular example is a later model based on the MK2 Ford Escort, 1. 3 cross flow engine with the 4 speed manual gearbox. What an eyeful it is! A detailed military style appearance with period military markings, shovel & axe mounted externally, jerry cans, hand painted war time murals on the scuttle, lots of memorabilia all around the interior, a properly well thought out display vehicle that someone has spent many man hours creating. Even has a red fire missile button! (missiles optional)
A brief history of Jago;
Geoff Jago was the man behind the Jago Jeep back in 1971. Taking a mould directly from an original Jeep and using mechanicals from the Ford Anglia on a very basic ladder frame chassis.
Continuous improvements with donor specifications and a cheap entry level price to kit construction saw the Jago Jeep sell in very large numbers over the years combined with a relatively easy build due to its basic nature. Later developments would see the Jeep based on Morris Minor, Ford Escort Mk1 and Mk 2, Ford Sierra and Suzuki 4x4.
The Jago Jeep utilised a basic ladderframe chassis and fibreglass body panels. As you would expect the finish was basic, emulating the car that inspired it. Using just the donor parts the Jeep was cheap as chips to build and run which was part of its popularity. The availability of cheap 4x4 production cars eventually killed off the Jago Jeep but not before being reincarnated as the Jago Sandero due to impending litigation over the Jeep name from Chrysler. The 1990s saw the end of production.
To drive? An absolutely hilarious experience, one that will leave a big impression and a large smile on your face! The 1. 3 Ford CrossFlow engine starts on the button, idles well, pulls through the rev range quite happily, has a nice 'raspy' tone to it, being so light it really can get a shift on, steering is smooth and gives more feedback than a conventional Jeep or Land Rover! The manual gearbox is great, slots into gear nicely without fuss, clutch bites where you'd want it to, and the brakes stop you as they should without pulling one side or the other. Suffice to say she starts, idles, accelerates, handles and brakes much better than you would expect. It certainly took me by surprise! Its a boat load of fun for what it is, and turns quite a few heads in the process. The bodywork is in very good order for its age, especially for a 1980's fibreglass kit car! No sign of cracking on any of the body panels, the doors line up properly, open and shut as they should and no untoward damage to mention. The military green paintwork is great, no flat spots or 'flaking' paint anywhere, the military markings and murals on the scuttle panel really set this one apart as a one of a kind truck. The interior is superb, such a great place to be while driving with all the little touches around the cab and in the rear. There is so much to list, I have lots of photos and a walk around videos I can send via whatsapp to prospective purchasers to have a proper look. Underside is extremely clean, no rust to the ladder chassis, plenty of pictures I can send via whatsapp.
So there we are! A stunning Jago Jeep (Geep) kit car, 1. 3 Ford crossflow engine, manual gearbox, incredible condition, a real head turner, drives great, new MOT, clearly someone's pride and joy, would look incredible at the summer shows or weekend car meets. These don't come up for sale very often at all, well worth travelling to view we certainly don't think you will be disappointed.
