Description
Yamaha RD400 E model dated from September 1978. This is widely considered one of the best two stroke twins ever made.
Matching engine and frame numbers as well as the all important originality, the bike is standard (I think!) and has the 2R9 stamped carburetors, twin exhausts and engine barrels.
This is a UK bike from new and the mileage 16100 is backed up by MOT history since 2007.
The seat is original metal base and in excellent shape. This bike could be fully restored to mint but I think it's better to use as is. Note the dent to tank, and a few cosmetic bits around, see pictures.
I believe the frame and some other parts have been powdercoated at some point in the bike's history but other than this it looks to be completely stock (although I am no expert so study the pictures).
The bike is now presented in an unrestored condition, and is ready to ride. Everything works, lights, horn, brakes, shocks - ready to ride. The engine starts easily on the kickstarter and runs well. This is a cared for and pretty well sorted motorcycle, although as with any vehicle of this age will of course need ongoing care in ownership.
