1967 Reliant Scimitar GT Coupe
The car has been a race car since the 70’s and I bought it in 2011 after admiring it for years!
A quick refresh became a full restoration including extensive chassis and body repairs.
Firstly the chassis was blasted and anything needing attention was repaired along with reinforcing and triangulation of the outriggers to provide substantial mounting points for the bolt in 6 point roll cage. As the car was to be used in historic circuit racing, side protection was added to the chassis.
The body was stripped back to gel coat and having found previous damage to the front end, it was replaced with a new lighter section taken from the original Reliant mould.
The drivers floor was lowered using a bespoke moulding and crossmembers were added for the seat/ harness mounting points. The passenger side remains standard and a seat could be added easily enough.
The doors were also new and lightened with fixed Polycarbonate windows, the remaining glass is still standard.
The body was painted in 2k Daytona Yellow and still looks very smart if not concours!
Being built with the intention of racing in the CSCC Swinging Sixties, a 60 litre + reserve foam filled/ baffled aluminium fuel tank was custom made including a breather valve, level sender and twin pump outlets.
There is plumbed in 4 litre mechanical fire extinguisher with nozzles serving the engine bay, driver and boot/ tank area.
The original dash has been modified and houses modern fuse and relay boxes, toggle switches, isolator, start button and Race Technology 2 digital dash. All functions are there to keep the car road legal.
There’s no heater so the windscreen is heated but there’s space for a heater if required.
The electrics are all bespoke and use tri-rated cable throughout, relays are used on all high current circuits.
All the lighting was new including Hella lightweight headlight units.
The seat is a Tillet FIA B6F, however this is out of date as is the Sabelt 6 point harness, still good for hillclimbing and sprints

On to the spec, again most was new when built:
Engine - John Wade Developments Essex V6 with High efficiency unleaded big valve heads, JW high torque cam, JW steel timing gear, roller rockers, baffled sump, high compression pistons, balanced with lightened flywheel and smaller uprated AP Racing clutch. The engine could do with mapping and should be over 200hp (currently 190hp and very torquey with great drivability, just a little rich at idle and not fully optimised)
Cooling - Custom alloy radiator pack including fan with silicone hoses and stainless joining pipes.
Induction - Triple Jenvey TB throttle bodies with risers for improved torque and custom airbox with Jenvey high flow air horns and twin remote Ram Air air filters.
Ric Wood triple DCNF manifold.
Engine control/ fuel system - Omex 710 ECU with Omex wiring loom and trigger wheel on crank pulley.
Bosch injection pump, Sytec filter and adjustable fuel pressure regulator.
Aeroquip type braided fuel hoses throughout.
Exhaust - Custom stainless tubular manifolds with 2x mid mounted silencers with side exit pipes.
Brakes - Wilwood tandem (dual circuit) master cylinder, Wilwood Superlite 4 pot front calipers with vented drilled discs.
Rear axle disc conversion using VW Golf MK4 alloy rear calipers, Rover discs.
Braided hoses throughout.
Transmission - Mazda RX8 5 speed gearbox conversion, Wilwood pull slave cylinder, custom balanced propshaft, Wilwood master cylinder and braided hose.
Axle - Uprated to Salisbury 4ha from the smaller 7ha, fully rebuilt including Scimitar SE6 trailing arm brackets for improved geometry and strength, Quaife ATB limited slip differential and the sought after 3:77 ratio CWP. Rose jointed Watts linkage links and trailing arms (axle end only).
Suspension - Improved geometry on the front suspension, polybushed, uprated ARB with rose jointed drop links, Scimitar SE6b (bigger bearing) hubs and stub axles.
Protech adjustable height and rate dampers front and rear with 2 1/ 4” springs.
Steering - TR6 quick rack with collapsable column and Moto-Lita wheel.
Wheels and tyres - Rota RBX minilite style 15x8 0et with Nankang AR-1 tyres.
MOT and Tax exempt but everything there to MOT if it was ever required.
