Description
Heritage shell V8 build by Tamar MG in the '90's.
Well known in the day in MGCC cornwall as owned by the late Pete Moores of The Tamar Trio trials team, and apparently used to tow his trials MG!
Some history inc. MOTs back to the '90's and maintenance inc. rebuilt screen and frame,
I bought it end of last summer from owner who had it for 3 years. He had a collection of amazing stuff and my understanding is he bought the B with the engine U/ S. He had his engine guy supply and fit a flowed 3. 9 V8, had a new duck hood fitted and used occasionally.
I drove it back from near Heathrow to Cheltenham up the M4 on a dark winter night end of last summer with no drama.
Since then I sourced a works hardtop and have done some detailing to the dash, inc. replacing unwired ammeter with a voltmeter all wired inc. light, fitted rare correct V8 oil pressure and removed modern stereo and fitted working 8 track - all to make it a nicer place to be. Lovely correct for year black leather recliners with correct black piping,
G/ HN4 model, so nice BMC touches such as key in dash, toggles switches etc. before BL influence.
I also fitted pre '69 rear light units, so correct for year.
I also had it MOT tested so MOT'd to Jan '25.
Told LT77 box. It's got EZ power steering which I wouldn't have done, but is really good.
Motolita steering wheel, rear spax, 14" chrome wires.
Alloy bonnet.
Also I have a stainless luggage rack that came on it and hides the marks on the boot lid from where it was fitted.
12 volt batt with isolator.
Drives really well. I've had 3 B V8's over the years, a factory one that was pretty flat, a similar one to this that was nowhere near as nicely built as this. This pulls way better and sounds lovely.
Gearbox is nice, diff quiet, brakes good.
Lovely shell. Stone chip underneath but all done a while ago so don't expect it to look like new. Photos added of underneath I have cleaned up a bit. Really nice engine bay. Paint is ok, but various chips and touch ins. Seams are good, but could paint outer shell, or just below chrome waistline, or just sills, or enjoy for a few years as is!
New old stock Lucas sealed beamed units I've had for 30+ years, giving a nice yellow glow..... Just fitted to replace modern looking ones.
Only reason I declared it on here as structural work is the new shell! no record of an accident. I think most stuff with sills, floors etc. done should tick that box really.
Advertised as I enjoy improving stuff and fancy another TR. That said, happy to keep this for a few summers. Just had a great trip in it camping at the to the Malvern Inter Club show. Went really well and sounds glorious.
Selling with hardtop if wanted - or I'm happy to keep it and take off what I paid for it from the price of the car.
Exc. 8 track player - will fit a correct blanking plate - and exc. cherished plate that has been in the family on MG's since the early '80's.
If you want it, it's now 16k. Please no offers as I would rather keep it. No canvassers. Please no time wasters or forensic interrogators. Ideal for someone that gets its £35k +++ to build now, so use this one, enjoy and improve, many thanks
