Description
1967 MGB Roadster – Pale Primrose with Overdrive
Built on 18 May 1967 and despatched five days later to Knott Brothers of Bournemouth, this right-hand-drive MGB Roadster was finished from new in Pale Primrose with black trim and a black hood. Its accompanying British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate confirms the factory specification, while the original Dorset registration, GJT 885E, remains with the car.
This is a well-known, properly used MGB with a particularly substantial history file. Alongside numerous invoices, old MOT certificates and tax discs are photographs showing an earlier body restoration and a detailed summary of maintenance stretching back to the late 1980s. The records chart decades of attention rather than a single recent cosmetic makeover.
The car’s specification has been thoughtfully improved for enjoyable modern use. The paperwork records a replacement 1. 8-litre engine with an unleaded cylinder head, together with a rebuilt three-synchro gearbox and overdrive. Further upgrades include electronic ignition, an alternator and negative-earth electrics, a Kenlowe electric fan, stainless-steel Peco exhaust, inertia-reel seatbelts and a replacement wiring loom.
The suspension and running gear have also received considerable attention, including a front suspension rebuild, telescopic front dampers, replacement stub axles and kingpins, a new propshaft and slightly lower, firmer front springs. Minilite-style 15-inch alloy wheels and a Mota-Lita steering wheel add a subtle sporting character without taking away from the MGB’s period appeal. A new black hood has recently been fitted.
Presented in its original colour combination, the car looks attractive and has the relaxed, characterful feel of an older MGB that has been enjoyed and maintained over many years. It is not a freshly restored or concours example: the paintwork, trim and detailing show age and use, and there are imperfections to be found on closer inspection. That honesty is part of its appeal. This is a nice, usable classic rather than a car too pristine to take out when the sun appears.
With overdrive for longer journeys, sensible reliability improvements and an unusually comprehensive history file, it should suit someone looking for an engaging MGB to drive, enjoy and continue improving over time.
