1969 Lotus Elan +2S
A stunning example of the 60’s classic lotus Elan +2S finished in Mercedes Arctic White. I have owned the car since July 2022 and only driven it during summer months. Always stored in a dry and dehumidified garage. The car was fully restored by the previous owner from ground up between 2019 - 2021. Please see photos for the extensive rebuild and restoration process. No expense has been spared.
There is a comprehensive history files from previous owners detailing what has been done to the car during their ownerships including a new galvanised chassis in 1981 which has since been repainted black by previous owner during restoration process. The engine was rebuilt back in Nov 2001 by Vegantune at 93, 872 miles. The car is currently showing 11, 216 miles, therefore only having done 17, 344 miles since complete rebuild.
When I purchased the car in 2022 it was in exceptional condition but did have a few minor personal issues that I wished to resolve. Mainly minor oil leaks. The previous owner did mention that he thought the twin weber carbs could be better balanced.
It turned out that the old carbs were worn and butterflies had been drilled / modified. As such I purchased a new set of Twin 40 type 151 Webers from Webcon and replaced the old type 31’s. Made a huge difference.
During my ownership I have removed the cylinder head to replace a leaking timing cover gasket. The head was cleaned and found to be in perfect condition as were all the bores, cams etc. Valve clearances were checked and re-shimmed to provide correct tolerances. Valve timing adjusted to suit new carb installation.
The sump was also removed and the sump gaskets replaced with cometic gaskets as opposed to leaky cork type. A new larger bore stainless steel exhaust has been fitted with larger carbon steel 4:2:1 manifold and a Hi-torque starter motor to improve engine turnover. The car sounds like it should do, nice and throaty.
Headlights have been replaced with modern LED units (still have old ones if required)
The car starts and runs like a dream ready for summer motoring or classic car events.
Absolutely stunning car that is ready to driven. Not to be missed and I'm confident that this car will sell to the right person.
