Collectable Classics is delighted to offer for sale a Jaguar E-Type Lightweight built as a recreation of the original lightweight E-Types built by Jaguar.

The owners of the car offered for sale are Jaguar enthusiasts who have always been passionate about E-Types and have completed ground up restorations on more than 35 3. 8 and 4. 2 Litre roadster and coupe E-Types including full engine rebuilds Chris is highly regarded in the industry.
A decision was made to build a Lightweight E-Type and the aim was to build an authentic recreation of the original lightweight Jaguars. He then embarked on considerable research to achieve this goal. This included a trip to the UK to meet with Rod Jay from Racing Jaguar Panels in Birmingham. A deal was struck to commence building an aluminium lightweight body and bonnet and for the panels to be shipped to Australia when completed. The total body weight including the body, door panels, boot lid/ hardtop and bonnet was 80 kgm.

The build started in 2013 when on 11th May 2013 the body assembly arrived by airfreight perfectly packed in wooden crates the supplier.

At the same time a decision was made that the car was to have an original lightweight engine from Crosthwaite and Gardiner in the UK and negotiations commenced to purchase all components for the engine from Crosthwaite and Gardiner and Rob Beere Racing. The engine is a full aluminium 3. 8 Croswaite and Gardener engine with wide angle D-Type cylinder heads, featuring competition camshafts, 10:1 pistons, racing crankshaft and connecting rods. It is fuelled by three 48mm Weber carburettors. Also features racing exhaust headers. It is the same engine as used in the original 12 lightweight E-types manufactured in the early 60’s by Jaguar. The gearbox as per original specifications is a straight cut, full synchro 4 speed gearbox which supplies power to the racing 3. 54 final drive unit.
Suspension was also as per original and was purchased from M & C Wilkinson in South Yorkshire. The brakes are alloy caliper Mark 9 as per the original cars also purchased from M & C Wilkinson. The fuel system comprises three 48 mm Weber carburettors.

Assembly of the vehicle commenced when all parts arrived, and the total build took 1200hrs. The whole build (including engine) was done by the owner who is highly regarded in the industry.

A decision was made to paint the car silver, again as per original cars built by Jaguar.

Racing seats were supplied by Racing Jaguar Panels and are upholstered in stunning red leather by a highly experienced motor trimmer. Again, like the original builds the remainder of the interior is polished aluminium. The whole effect is simply stunning.

The instruments and controls are in excellent condition and were sourced from a donor car and were fully reconditioned prior to installation. The steering wheel was supplied by Rob Beere Racing.

The correct alloy peg drive wheels are fitted to the car.

Every effort has been made to build this car as close as possible to the original lightweight cars built by Jaguar and the whole effect is a simply stunning motor vehicle.
