and welcome to the private classified sale of this ultra rare Timewarp special edition Citroen AX 1. 1 TGE hatchback from 1991. There are just 3 Chicago Special Editions remaining in the UK and this one was recommissioned and brought back into use about two/ three years ago after long-term (26 years!) dry garage storage.
The car is completely rust/ corrosion free... everywhere. It is in remarkable original condition throughout. The comfy unmarked interior is truly 'mint' and, as you can see from the pictures, the exterior is also lovely with just a few very very tiny marks. The AX is easily good enough to show and attracts lots of attention whenever we are out & about. It is in regular use and you could happily drive to the French Riviera in it without worry.
We have owned the car for just over 18 months and enjoyed every moment of it. The AX is a true wonder; very comfy, surprisingly nippy and amazingly frugal on fuel. It accelerates through it's slick 5-speed gearbox to 60 mph in under 12 seconds and would cruise all day at 100 mph if allowed. There's no problem keeping up with 'modern' traffic in this wee 'Retro Rocket'.
At a constant 56 mph, fuel consumption is a staggering 72. 4 mpg and we have easily achieved 60 mpg on mixed journeys. We have always used Premium 97/ 99 Octane fuel in the car. If, like us, you live in Scotland, the AX at over 30 years old is exempt from 'LEZ' charges!!
Citroen have always been ahead of the game when designing and making making small cars and I have always liked the AX but before buying, I watched a good Youtube video entitled...

Since buying the AX, I have carried out a good number of sensible improvements with a view to our long-term ownership. Circumstances however have changed and, with my wife no longer driving, we are down-sizing to just one car and the AX is (sadly) looking for a good new home.
Service & Upgrades Summary....
- Full body cavity & under-body Dinitrol Rustproof Treatment. Please note... the under-body was literally in factory-fresh condition before the Dinitrol process. In 50+ years of motoring, I have never seen a used car, let alone one that's is 30+ years old, is such good condition. Truly amazing!
- New custom-made stainless steel full exhaust system by Chris at Silver Systems in Leek (sounds great!)
The car is pre 1993 so doesn't need a horrid Catalytic Converter... wonderful!
- Brand new Carburettor fitted
- New front shock absorbers
- 3 mm wheel spacers fitted all round
- 4 new premium All -Season tyres, wheels balanced and tracking re-done.
- Quality Pioneer CD/ Radio fitted along with Pioneer Tweeter speakers in the front and excellent 'Kicker' speakers from the 'US of A' concealed in their correct housings by the rear seats... it all sounds very good.
- front 'Retro' style rectangular Bosch Driving lights fitted and wired (through a relay) in to Main Beam.
- Headlights/ sidelights upgraded to Halogen Osram Night Breaker Lasers and Quality LED's for the sidelights. Both are excellent improvements.
- New ignition system... Coil, Ignition Lead set and quality NGK spark plugs.
- 'K&N type free-flow long-life Air Filter fitted in original housing.
- rare new smoked wind/ rain deflectors from Heko (the very last pair!)
- new front/ rear Bosch wiper blades (I love the single front wiper - very Continental)
Service work includes.... 2 x oil & filter changes, brake service, auxiliary belt, fluids check and most importantly a recent (March 2024) Timing Belt kit & Water Pump.
I'm sure there are things I've forgotten but, suffice to say, the car is fully serviced, starts first time (manual choke) and drives superbly in all respects.
The spare wheel is also an unmarked alloy and is carried, in the correct position, under the rear of the car. I bought a special waterproof wheel bag for it which provides protection from the elements. The original wheel brace is present and correctly stowed. The car will also come with the factory jack.
There is an unused soft carry-bag for the sunroof if you wish to remove it completely. (just a clip). The sunroof operates freely on a turn-wheel and... it doesn't leak!!
All the windows have the registration number etched into them and the front window winders are smooth and efficient.
Both side rear windows have pop-out opening to the rear which is really nice for added ventilation.
The rear seat either drops forward or simply lifts out in two parts (base and back rest) leaving you with a really useful huge and flat load space.

The unmarked original carpets are protected with new tailored rubber floor mats, as it the boot floor. Under the rubber and carpet boot mats, the load space floor is absolutely factory fresh (see image) and again... no corrosion or marking whatsoever.
The provenance of the car shows in the original factory number plates and all manufacturers, stickers and markings. There are 2 full sets of keys (with nice Citroen key fobs), an owners handbook, a Haynes manual and other useful documentation including the original 'Chicago' sales brochure.
The car is every bit as good, if not better than, a new AX. It looks superb, runs perfectly and is fully corrosion protected. With a genuine 30k miles, fully serviced and a full 12 months MoT, what's not to like. Come and drive it... you'll love it!
