Description
1958 Minor 4 door saloon
Fantastic condition and lovely history.
The car has had 3 owners from new (including my father, who is the 3rd/ current owner) and has spent its entire life in the same town! Has lots of old paperwork with it that clearly shows it's history.
My father bought this car in 2008 as a retirement project - The previous lady owner (who owned it since the 1960s) had lost her confidence with driving it, and it sat in a garage for many years until she passed away.
Between 2008 and 2013 it underwent a total restoration - I work with classic cars for a living and undertook all the welding and painting, with my father doing everything else. The car was actually very good to start with, but any welding was done to a high standard and there is a photographic record of this.
The car was resprayed in it's original colour of BMC 'Dark Green' (GN12) - This was done in 2012, the fact it still looks this good speaks for the fact it was done well.
Unfortunately the original engine had a cracked block due (we believe) to it haven frozen while it was sat unused for years with plain water in the cooling system. It was decided to rebuild and use a slightly later 1098cc engine my dad had 'lying around'
Everything has been gone through - engine fully rebuilt, gearbox rebuilt and new clutch. New brake wheel and master cylinders, pipes, original radiator re-cored, rebuilt suspension and all new bushes etc.
The front seats were professionally retrimmed, new carpets, headlining, window rubbers etc.
Some alterations (such as the proper indicators instead of traficators) had been made to the car during its life. So were retained as part of the restoration as we felt it was part of the cars 'story'.
The car drives really well, feels very solid and together, and whilst (obviously!) not fast, feels surprisingly sprightly.
If you are interested, please call me, as I find it a lot easier to talk someone through everything that's been done/ cars history rather than trying to write out pages of details.
