Description
1972 Chevrolet Chevelle in outstanding condition. Lifetime California car personally imported by myself in Spring 2019. Purchased from California Cars, Simi Valley, California. It's in its original colours if cranberry red with painted black stripes with white interior.
Fitted with a built 355 engine with TH350 gearbox and 12 bolt positraction differential.
A video of the car can be seen on their Facebook page dated February 2019. The video and detailed photographs around and underneath the car led to my purchase.
As a California car it had no heavy underseal and the US photographs showed a remarkable rust free original floor pan.
Upon arrival in UK I spent considerable time applying clear Rustbuster wax to the complete floor and detailing the chassis and chassis components to preserve it in UK climate.
Photographs taken recently show just how good the underneath is. There is also included a photo taken in US prior to my purchase
The car is in remarkable condition structurally and has no evidence of any restoration.
The appearance is also outstanding. As described in the California Cars video the paint does have a some blemishes but no rust anywhere. Some micro blisters mainly in trunk area. From a few paces though it looks perfect as can be seen in photos and cause great admiration wherever it goes. It looks like it's been repainted once but not recent years and certainly not by me and areas like door shuts, inside trunk lid have not been painted and are absolutely perfect and rust free as seen in photos. Even under the chrome wheel arch embellishers. The condition is remarkable. The inside is in the original colour of white. It is very presentable. Dashboard top has no cracks and is perfect. Only a repairable split in rear seat cushion. Carpets are excellent.

SS steering wheel.
The engine is a non matching numbers built 355 with:
Edelbrock aluminium Performer RPM cylinder heads.
Edelbrock inlet manifold
Edelbrock 1406 carburettor
Coated long tube headers
2 1/ 2 inch exhaust with H pipe and flowmaster silencers.
High torque starter motor.
It is upwards of 350HP.
Exhaust sounds amazing and engine is mechanically perfect and quiet.
Gearbox is TH350 with shift kit.
Axle is 12 bolt lsd with 3. 08 ratio.
The whole drivetrain is mechanically perfect. The heads, manifold and carburettor, radiator, exhaust all look recently fitted in US. Oil pressure is excellent as is coolant temperature.
The engine bay had been detailed in US by previous owner and I have spent time continuing to maintain its great appearance. I have purchased a front pulley dress up kit not yet fitted but included in the sale.
On arrival fuel gauge didn't work and I have recently fitted following new parts from US:
Notched corner fuel tank from USTanks to correctly clear 2 1/ 2 inch exhaust.
New tank sender( gauge now perfect).
New under header MSD super conductor plug leads.
New Mallory distributor cap.
New Autolite plugs.
New Petronix ignition coil.
New aluminium TH350 sump pan to cure oil leak.
New heater fan.
New battery.
As an engineer at Lotus Cars in the 70s, 80s and 90s and now a lecturer in Automotive Engineering at our local University my passion is cars. I hate rust and the condition underneath a car is the most important to me. More important than the top. Hence my work detailing and preserving the underneath. This Chevelle represented the perfect muscle car for me with a striking colour combination and with its structural and mechanical excellence. It is a great driver car.
It is only for sale because of my love for engineering and I want to start a new project and I need the space.
The Chevelle is as excellent and mechanically reliable as I can make it. It has no known mechanical issues at all. No oil leaks. No smoke. Similarly with the steering, suspension and brakes. The power steering and power brakes are excellent. The whole driving experience is outstanding.
I have all the correct paperwork including Nova, import documents, V5 in my name, California title, California number plate. It comes with original metal protecto plate with original owner name and address and with original owner manual. I am open to any discussion and have many more photos or videos of engine running.
