Undoubtedly the ideal car either for being seen around town or for hitching behind a Winnebago when exploring Europe or beyond. The SEAT attracts attention and turns heads whenever it’s driven out, it looks cute, is very different from most cars on the road and is ELECTRIC!!
The car was imported as a project for conversion from petrol to electric just over four years ago. Having spent all of its life in the Barcelona area it is entirely rust free. It had suffered all the usual supermarket and parking rash and had some dents and bumps and so was resprayed from white to the more period Positano yellow.
The change to battery power has been achieved by the installation of an HPEVS 20ac motor and a Curtis 1238E controller with charging and BMS from 'Thunderstruck Motors'. The three TESLA 5. 3kw/ h 24v battery modules that power the car have been located (1) where the fuel tank was under the front bonnet, (2) under the rear seat squab and (3) behind the rear seat backrest heater.
The normal gearbox has been retained but the car has no clutch, so on most occasions moving forward involves the use of the third gear and to reverse a switch on the dashboard is used. The car feels lively on the road and has a range of between 45 and 60 miles depending on driving style with a top speed of 60mph plus. To charge, a J1172 plug is connected beneath the lift-up rear number plate, the car will then charge from flat to full overnight from a normal domestic 13amp socket.
