1984 Mercedes 380 SL
2003, 00 miles
This was my Dads car who died 18 months ago He’d owned it For aprox 18 years I know he took a long time to find a solid rust free one and had rejected cheeper and better looking ones for this car ( alloy engine ?) He was a Prof of physics / engineering, but not of Aesthetics..! So needs tidying.
It was used regularly and had it maintained by a Mercedes trained mechanic.
M. o. t till end of October .
From the end of 2022 started & used locally once a month.
Engine top half “hydraulic tappets” was worked on by a local classic specialist in 2018/ 19 .
Welding to the back suspension & boot area in 2020/ 21 was done by a friend of a friend as it had failed its mot then. ( I don’t think there is a receipt for this but i feel it was very good work )
Front wing panel was in the last decade replace but has miss matched paint. Surface rust in small patches on body & Crome areas.
There is an override for high revving engine fitting into lighter socket ( can be un plugged so will start in the frozen Scottish winter.
The Engine sounds noisy at start. so perhaps a tune or fettling is needed?
Boot leeks needs seals ? There are some old or replacement ones in the car. The boot struts as well are needed but your welcome to the wood that holds it up.
My Dad told me that the exhaust would need replacing at some point as well.
He kept it covered partically paying attention to the the bonnet vents at the A frame pillars That at some point have been worked on.
The central locking dos not work on the passerger door but can be closed manually.
The soft top ( light blue ) looked ok 18 months ago e. g not ripped or leaking.
It is a genuine usable / rolling restoration car.
