1980 Range Rover Classic in Exceptional Condition

I have reduced my asking price for a quicker sale after being let down at the last minute by a prospective buyer.

I have owned this vehicle for almost three years having hankered after one for a long time. I searched for the right vehicle for well over a year and snapped this one up when I found her because she had no rust, was mechanically sound and was being used regularly but lightly for weekend fishing trips. Furthermore, she came with extensive history, including her original fully stamped "Passport to Service", owner's manual and a large folder of receipts.

After driving her regularly for six months, the vehicle was fully stripped back to the shell, revealing a perfect chassis in outstanding condition. The only welding required was to the front driver’s footwell, a small area of the front, nearside sill and a small area of the frame behind the front, near side wing. This was professionally undertaken and the chassis and frame were then rust-proofed, primed and re-painted. Minor rust to the lower tailgate which was professionally removed, and the upper tailgate was replaced with a new tailgate from Masai. The vehicle’s interior was then sound-proofed using dodo mats and the bodywork was then taken back to bare metal for a colour change to Bahama Gold (LRC 235) in 2k paint. The finish is exceptional and, of course, there is zero rust.

I purchased a full set of new rubber seals (windscreen, windows, doors, tailgate) from Famous Four and I also replaced the quarter light frames, rear light and front side light clusters, door mirrors and petrol cap with genuine parts. While a new windscreen and tailgate were fitted, all other glass is in original condition and the original registration number is etched onto each window.

The interior has been completely restored to its former glory, no expense spared, with all new parts sourced exclusively from Exmoor Trim and Famous Four. In brief, new herringbone cloth seat covers were fitted, along with a full set of bronze carpets (a pair of bronze rear-wheel arch covers is included in the sale but have not been fitted because they were not originally fitted to 1980 models), new headlining, new palomino door cards, arm rests, rear panels, B and C pillar trims, front footwell side trims, and new hardura spare wheel and tool covers. The original tool kit remains in place. The dash top was badly cracked and, after months of searching, I sourced a replacement in perfect condition from Suffix Matters. Being assembled in SA, this vehicle has factory-fitted A/ C which I have had restored to fully working condition.

The original Passport to Service accompanies the vehicle. This includes a fully stamped service history and the original sales acknowledgement, dated 20 February 1980 in the name of Mr C. F De Langue of Florida Panel Beaters in Johannesburg, bearing the registration number CVL 767T. Historic registration documents show that the vehicle has had only a handful of previous owners and remained registered in the inland Johannesburg area of South Africa until 2014, when it was purchased by Mr Leigh Briggs and transferred to the Eastern Cape province. Mr Briggs kept the vehicle fully maintained (service and maintenance records are available) and used the car for weekend fishing expeditions until I bought it in late 2021.

The original service history is complemented by maintenance records dating from 1980-1983 and from 2014-2024. Plus, there is some limited history from 2007-2014. Under my ownership, I had a marque specialist go through the mechanicals. This resulted in professionally rebuilding the Stromberg carburettors and replacing the starter motor, radiator core and brake master cylinder, as well as service items including but not limited to the battery, spark plugs, leads, oild and fuel filters, coolant hoses/. I have also had the brakes and suspension fully serviced and had the oil changed twice.

I Imported the vehicle from South Africa in late 2023 when I moved back to the UK. It is now registered in the UK bearing the registration KVO 975V and, as a historical vehicle, is tax and MOT exempt. Nevertheless, I obtained an advisory-free MOT in December 2023 for provenance.

The vehicle drives beautifully - the engine and gearbox are truly exceptional and the extensive use of professional sound-proofing to the interior is transformative. Those who know will know.

The vehicle has always been exclusively garaged at my homes in Cape Town and the UK, and is now offered for sale in exceptional, rust-free and turn-key condition.
