Description
For sale is a 1992 Japanese spec Range Rover Classic (RRC). I had been searching for a RRC to use as a daily driver with some creature comforts, and after many years found this example for sale. I have had this RRC for five years now. I have used the car sparingly and over the course of the past two summers have driven the car from London to the South of France, used it in France over the summer, into northern Italy, and driven it back to the UK. Over the thousands of miles driven on those two trips, the only issues I have had was with a coolant hose fitting that came loose and a pinhole in another coolant hose. Given, that the car never left me stranded on my summer trips, I decided to get the car to a mechanically reliable standard, so as to continue to be able to use it with confidence in the future. In September 2025 the car went to Kingsley Cars (RRC specialists) and has had £14000 spent on engine, steering, suspension, and brake upgrades. To increase performance we installed a new camshaft which added an additional 20 horsepower. We also replaced the timing chain, inspected the cylinder block, the head gasket was replaced, new belts and pulleys were installed, all new coolant hoses, new spark plugs, new starter motor, and a new alternator. Old Man Emu springs, shock absorbers and a steering damper were installed. Four brand new brake callipers were also installed. In addition, the original sunroof (which was not working) was replaced with a new sunroof and new seals. The car also got four new tyres (balanced and tracked). Further to the above, Kingsley fixed the central locking fault, and that all works now. All the fluids were checked by Kingsley, and they replaced the transfer case fluid, it has new coolant, an oil and filter change, and new brake fluid. All grease ports were topped up with new grease. The transmission fluid did not need replacing. In my ownership, the car has had oil and filter changes every 4000 miles, I have replaced the exhaust with an OEM exhaust, and have had the air conditioning system upgraded to use the R134 refrigerant. It has a new Alpine head unit with Bluetooth connectivity, and four brand new speakers. Mechanically, the car is now very sound and future proofed. Since the upgrades, I have driven the car 700 miles, and the car drives and rides absolutely wonderfully. With the new camshaft, you can cruise at 70mph at only 2000rpm all day long. This era of Range Rover was a period were you were engaged in driving the car and you connect with the car. It is also a car that get’s a lot of thumbs up from other motorists.
Structurally, the car has no rust, and has had a lanoguard treatment. The chassis and and the body work are in excellent condition. Previously it has lived in Japan and then Dubai, prior to being imported to the UK. The interior of the car is also in very good condition. The car was originally painted a Cypress green from the factory, and the previous owner to me had the car repainted in Westminster grey. It was repainted due to sun fading the paint. Although the paint job was done well, it has been many years since, and there are a few areas on the body work were the paint has started to chip/ peel (please see pictures), and hence why I have priced it as it is. There is also some slight bubbling of the paint on the rear tailgate frame (easily sanded down and repainted).
This is a very well sorted RRC that is in excellent mechanical, structural and interior condition. It is a bit unique in that it is also a Japanese spec with the chrome bumpers. The car comes with its two original Range Rover keys. It has had only 3 careful owners in its 33 years and has only covered 90700 miles. As one mechanic stated when doing an oil change, this is the first RRC he has come across that does not leak oil. The rear transmission seal was replaced by the previous owner. The car also comes with a few tools, its tyre changing tools, and a few replacement spare parts (belts, spark plugs, new HT leads, some coolant hoses), and a fire extinguisher.
This is a comfortable, well equipped (Vogue SE), and well maintained RRC, that has proven itself capable of being taken on several thousand mile excursions with relative reliability.
