Description
Here is my 1998 Rover Mini 1. 3 MPi, finished in rare Hawaiian Blue. With 36, 962 miles on, a full service history, both original keys, original Rover book pack (complete) and a stack of bills and receipts.
I purchased the car in June 2019, sold to me as something that was top of the class, but it was not close to that standard, and has taken me time, effort and money to get it to where it should have been when I acquired it. The little details count on a car like this, and I have hopefully from the pictures you will agree that I have got those right.
The car is in original condition, with beautiful straight panels, no dents, and significantly all original, no welding. The interior is almost as new, no rips on the original half leather seats, and includes an original Philips stereo cassette player, which is fully functioning, although it was not when I purchased it. All the electrics work as they should, including the alarm and remote key fobs.
Regards work I have done...
Genuine Original Rover Horizon Blue carpet mats
Original non-vented locking stainless steel petrol cap
Replacement windscreen – correct green tint with original SRS airbag identifiers
Original late model rubber pedals
New black wiper arms and blades
Original spec front fog lights, fitted and working correctly. It didn’t have these when I got the car, but it was offered as an option when new, so these are correct.
2 new front Falken SN828 145 70 R12 tyres (which are now hard to find) so all four tyres match on the original correct sizes, and 16 new chrome wheel nuts.
Replacement Philips R660 stereo cassette player (as correct when new), fully functional, with original stereo manual.
New custom made Rover branded number plates (Rover Group, with correct Rover badge for 1998), front and rear.
4 new Road Rally Rubber Cones – Red Spots, with new knuckle joints, and adjusters. Fitted by M&G Rover specialists, Bradford, set to stock height.
New water pump
New heater matrix and pipes, flushed and working correctly, nice and warm.
New expansion tank and cap, so it pressurises correctly as for a time it wasn’t kicking the fan on correctly. Along with a full bleed, and replacement of the temperature sensor and thermostat it now runs sweetly.
There are other little bits too, but hopefully I have given you an idea as to the extent of the effort I have gone to get it to this condition. The car had not been used much over the last decade by its elderly lady owner, as the MOT history proves, but was kept in a dry heated garage. However, it seemingly had just been left alone, so a massive amount of detailing had to be done inside to bring it back to this standard, as the carpets and roof lining were not in good shape.
It drives superb, is nice and responsive, and quietly cruises with no drama. Brakes are good, and the gearbox is nice and smooth, as this can be a problem on the MPi models, but no issues here. I am the fourth owner, the lady before me having owned the car since 2000, and two before that.
With a little bit more detailing it will be something else, as the passenger door is starting to bubble at the bottom. Certainly not a big issue, and it is ready to be driven and enjoyed straight away. Everyone that has worked on it has commented extensively over the condition, originality, and colour. With it being a non Cooper model, it is rarer and certainly no less attractive, certainly in this colour, which from my research seems to have only been offered between 1997 -98.
My growing family has meant my little Mini just doesn't get used as much as I'd like, so maybe it is time to let someone else enjoy it.
