This wonderfully nostalgic Cavalier mk3, a once common sight and instantly familiar to many of us who had one in our family's is now seldom seen and our example is amazingly preserved in showroom condition with incredible credentials of just 2 owners from new and just 9300 miles from new!!!, Finished in factory original Satin Red Pearlescent which was a cost option when new, The Paintwork Boasts an incredible deep shine and uniform finish thanks to a recent 2 stage paint correction and ceramic coating carried out at Classicwise in Southwell Nottinghamshire at a cost of £800. Inline with the exceptionally low mileage and the fact the car has spent the majority of its life in a warm integral garage common troublesome areas such as rear arches and sills are all in original great shape , All the factory panels are damage free and in superb condition! there is a tiny ding to the bonnet and a tiny paint chip just above one of the headlights these are barely visable please remember the car is still used on the roads and only used when driven to classic car shows!, The factory glass, GM Carello headlights, badges and trim sections are as new and the original supplying dealer number plates, rear screen sticker and tax disc holder are certain to impress the most ardent scrutineer at a classic car show!
A Spotlessly clean, functional and period vauxhall interior will certainly delight fans of these griffin badged cars!, The original polka dot trim is in exceptional condition with just some slight wear to the drivers bolster, the matching colour keyed door cards and headlining are pristine and the fleece carpets are protected by the factory dealer option floor mats
The functions and controls are operating perfectly including the factory Grundig SC303 radio cassette and electric front windows, likewise the dashboard is pristine and uncracked like most, the same can also be said about the switchgear, Prominent natural veins to the steering wheel and gear knob are an obvious trait of such a low mileage car and even the gearstick gaiter has not degraded! almost unheard of for a vauxhall of this era! The immaculate boot floor has the factory insulating panel and the original polystyrene moulding holds the jack and wheel brace, it is almost unconceivable to imagine a better example let alone find one!
The Cavalier features the desired 1. 8i 1796 OHC engine developing 90bhp at 5400rpm, the car is an absolute treat to drive and very comfy and i will happily sit on the motorway all day at 70mph which is why i can see it was the choice of so many Sales Reps back in the day! when i acquired the vehicle in the summer of 2021 we carried out a full service and cambelt and waterpump change, the engine is lovely and quiet with no nasty noises or rattles when driving, the engine bay is very clean and unaltered as you'd expect with an concours winning vehicle and displays original panel stampings, the five speed manual gearbox is tight and pricise when driving
The original 14" wheels wear the correct LS specification hubcaps which are in great condition and when the car came into my ownership in 2021 it arrived on its original 27 year old Michelin energy tyres! the tyres were in such great condition that they still passed the cars mot in 2021 showing no cracks to the sidewalls amazingly!! i guess this was a testament to the fact the car had been kept in a nice warm integral garage! as nice as it was to see it on the original tyres i was not very comfortable at the of driving on them long distance to shows especially on motorways! so at the beginning of 2022 i had 4 brand new kumho tyres which have covered less than 4000 miles since being fitted
The standard front brake discs and rear drums are fitted and working perfectly as with later MK3 models featured anti lock brakes on all models as proudly advertised by the ABS boot badge, the braking system was completely overhauled at the same time as a full service during july 2021Registered new on the 28th september 1994, this exceptional vehicle which is approaching its 30th birthday has covered a mere 9300 miles from new! i'll say that again 9300 miles from new, The car was supplied new by Vauxhall Main Dealer, Cowie of Leicester, to Mr Gianniono ( first owner ) who according to the original sales invoice in the history file paid £11, 600 less part exchange allowance of £3500 for his 1988 Vauxhall Cavalier 1. 6L. The purchase became more than a mildly contentious matter when the italian gentleman arrived home with the car having not told his wife about the purchase!!!! Brave chap if you ask me!!, From what weve heard from family members Mrs Gianniono Hit The Roof! and ordered her to take the car back to the dealership! clearly this was not an idol demand as there is evidence in the history file of a Vauxhall exchange eligibility form completed when he tried to return the car stating he was not happy with the car!, whether Vauxhall were not happy to take the car back or Mrs Gianniono relented from her threat we never found out from family members! nevertheless the car was kept in the italian family's integral heated garage for the next 27 years, Mr Gianniono being a man of italian heritage hung a Conciello 'horn to bring luck' from the rear view mirror which is still there today! and i hope the new owner will carry this tradition on for the foreseeable future!, unfortunately during 2008 Mr gianniono passed away but the family it seemed could not bare to part with the cavalier until the summer of 2021 when it was decided it was finally time to let the go to a new owner! This is also why you will notice a gap in the cars Mot history if you have checked online there is a gap between 2009 and 2021 and this was obviously during the time the car was left parked in the family's garage which then brings us up to the car coming into my ownership in the summer of 2021
When i first came across the advert for this car and i saw the mileage was reading 5991 miles i genuinely thought this can't be right i said to my partner this must be a typo error! then having read the cars back story i said i need to go and see this car just to check the odometer reading!! luckily with the car not to far away it made sense to go see it so a viewing was subsequently organised, as soon as i saw it i knew it was coming home with me! its a special car and i couldn't pass the opportunity on owning what has to be lowest mileage Vauxhall Cavalier in the uk!
we've had a fantastic 3 years owning this Cavalier its been such a joy to drive and take to Classic car events around the country picking up its first award a month after purchased it at The Notts Classic Car Show in August 2021 winning Best 90's Vehicle and Also picking up Best Engine Bay at Beckingham Transport Rally during august 2021, then in September of 2021 the car won Best Concours vehicle at The Drivers Collection Show near Sheffield, July 2022 saw the car selected for the Hagerty Festival of The Unexceptional at Grimsthorpe castle Lincolnshire, where it was displayed with other fine examples of Sales Reps motors from the 80s and 90s! , September 2022 saw the car again take best concours vehicle at The Drivers Collection Show near Sheffield, then in 2023 the car was chosen to take part in the Concours De L'ordinaire at the Hagerty Festival of the Unexceptional joining 49 other cars in the grounds of Grimsthorpe castle
The car has been maintained and pampered regardless of cost throughout my ownership this includes a recent 2 stage paintwork correction and ceramic coating with around 8 months left on the warranty, The car has been recently serviced with new plugs and all filters replaced along with a coolant system flush ready for its new owner, an MOT was also carried out at the same time with car passing with no advisories to keep it up its unblemished MOT history!! the MOT tester actually said to me your going to regret selling this! and he's probably right!
So why am i selling this fantastic car then? the simple fact is i have other vehicles that need my attention and money! its a case of thinning down the collection im afraid! its a very reluctant sale i will that! im fully aware i'll probably never another car like this again! But my loss could be your gain!
This is a special car it isn't your average MK3 Cavalier and thats reflected in the price, its a great investment opportunity aswell! values on cars of this era are only going way at the moment!
The Vauxhall literature pack contains some of the original dealership handbooks and original sales brochure and two keys are present including the original vauxhall working torch key. unfortunately the original service book was lost by the first owner.
To summarise this beautifully preserved and collectors quality Cavalier is a credit to its long term custodian and offers capable, practical and comfortable retro motoring. A guaranteed hit at shows!
Viewings Highly Recommended!!
