I bought this motorbike soon after BMW brought out this model and it has been in my ownership since August 1988. It has been well-used and, whilst not in pristine condition, has been very reliable and still runs well. It has been off the road for a while and I have now decided to sell it.
I have had it serviced, it has a new battery and new tyres and passed its MOT without issues.
I’ve not been able to ride it myself recently due to health issues, but it has been test-ridden.
It comes with fitted panniers, spare keys and original tools.
There have been various repairs over the years including repairs to the electrics, a new LH switch-gear unit, a new seat cover, exhaust section replacements, gearbox overhaul, rear damper replacement… I have a full service record since 1988.
Cosmetically, it does have scrapes and a bit of bending on the crash bars, there is paint-wear on the tank and damage to one of the BMW badges, there is some surface corrosion.
The rear foot-rests are not original.
It was noted during the test-ride that the gearbox spring is failing, making it a bit clumsy changing down sometimes. I bought the motorbike mainly for touring in Scandinavia plus some journeys around continental Europe. It proved very reliable during long trips of several thousand miles, often on poor road surfaces and in bad weather.
