1980 BMW 635 CSi – rare early E24 in excellent condition – The Ultimate (80’s) Driving Machine

Now and again a car comes along that changes the game and for BMW the legendary E24 was it, there was nothing quite like them at the time for luxury sports performance, and for many the ‘shark nose’ 635 CSi is still considered ‘peak BMW’. The styling seems to have got even better with age and the drive & handling are superb even by modern standards, with the 3. 5 litre inline 6 making the perfect roar. I’m not sure what makes me smile more…looking at it or driving it.
The DVLA report only 9 of these rare, early 1980 cars currently on the road making this an extremely rare car, particularly in such outstanding condition. Subject to a bare metal restoration in 2022-2023, with photographic support in the file, it presents superbly; outside, inside & underneath, even retaining the often missing tool kit and original BMW folder.
A low mileage example having covered just 103, 500 – or an ave of 2, 350 a year, it’s been mechanically well looked after including a specialist inspection & tune up in 2023. The automatic gearbox is super smooth, shifting up and down exactly as it should, the steering is sharp and responsive with plenty of acceleration on tap. That wonderful soundtrack reminds you of the 3. 5 litre powerhouse under the bonnet, with a top speed of 140 mph and the 215 bhp getting you to 60 mph in 6. 9 seconds.
The thing that really strikes you when behind the wheel is how incredibly well it copes in modern traffic, its hard to believe you’re in a 44 year old car, this must have been something else back in 1980, it’s no wonder they cost considerably more than your average house!
Finished in Silver with a superb dark blue leather interior; the trim is in incredible condition with no cracks or splits whatsoever, even to the dash. Riding on the correct 15” cross spoke alloys with matching tyres all round, this excellent example needs nothing….. on the key and ready to go.
The car is lovely and is becoming far more sought after with it being a very early model with the stronger engine.
