NOW SOLD Yamaha TRX850. 1996. Racing Red. 5830 miles. Pretty much as new.
I purchased this bike privately in 2005 when the bike was 9 years old and had travelled 2000 miles. It hadn't suited the owner as he was too tall for it and it went into store. Indeed, he had even re-padded the seat to make the seat higher. I bought a new seat from Yamaha. Since then I have used it sparingly and for occasional overseas jaunts - always in summer.
The bike was near perfect (only needing a clean and a new seat and re-commissioning) when I bought it but it was enhanced further (in 2006) with a Racetech fork revalve (fitted by JHS Racing), a remote reservoir Ohlins rear shock, a hugger, and Yamaha R6 blue spot callipers and HEL brake lines. All of which improve rideability without taking away any of its original looks. It has a recent battery and new Michelin Pilot Road 5 tyres.
This bike is exceptional for a near thirty year old bike. If i took the plate off it would be indistinguishable from new (other than the nineties styling). It drives exceptionally well and is a real tonic being light, has great drive, and handles deftly. It’s sporty but doesn’t require a chiropractor after each trip. And 90 bhp doesn’t require traction control but never feels inadequate.
I have maintained the bike on a time based schedule so it has had regular fluid changes and plugs and filters. As befits its mileage it has never needed the rocker cover off. And the chain has ever only been tightened when the tyres have been changed. The bike has its own custom tailored cover and paddock stand and sits in a heated building.
This two owner bike is pretty much unique in that it has total provenance including two keys, all books, including a service manual, a history binder with full documentation , and the original tool kit. Often said, but this must be the best TRX in the country. Video on application. It is currently SORN'd but would be MOT'd on agreement to purchase.
The bike also has a set of period correct Micron race silencers which are also in perfect condition. They are quite loud and allow the bike to make its off-beat quasi V-Twin racket. I prefer now to go under the radar and prefer the standard pipes.
