Description
In 2000-2002 this car was assembled using parts from AC & Shelby known supplier Gerry Hawkbridge. Registered correctly as a Hawk 289 Le Mans in 2003 by John Abel who is well known in the AC world. The car was then shipped to France where it was enjoyed by a family located in Normandy where it resided for 5 years enjoying trips to Le Mans Classic and Pau historic races. Shortly after it was sold to Germany & Sweden before finding its way back to the UK where it was tracked down by the same family who owned it in Normandy. The car then was purchased by a uk collector where it was thoroughly enjoyed until now.
Running a 5. 7ltr Windsor v8 through a tremec 5 speed manual. Side exit exhausts. Period correct smiths gauges. Trimmed in black by AC specialist & painted in princess blue by an original AC painter with removable Le Mans hardtop and correct split boot. This cobra replica was built to model the original 39PH which ran at Le Mans in 1963.
Through its life the car has been featured in Classic driver and autostrada magazine. The history file also contains correspondence between the owner and Pete Brock of Shelby Daytona fame.
In our opinion this is an extremely accurate example of a cobra replica, so much so it regularly causes a stir in paddocks where bystanders need correcting that it is in fact a replica and not a genuine example. The driving experience is fantastic and the period V8 roar is emotive.
Period touches include correct gear shifter, AC pedals, AC scripted spinners, boot and bonnet levers, seats, overriders and front grille to mention a few. To make the car feel more comfortable VTF484 is equipped with Kevlar leaf springs and coil over suspension, the desirable adjustable suspension package from Hawk, cosworth rear differential, ventilated brake discs and uprated calipers. The engine is producing a little over 350 BHP which makes for an exhilarating ride.
