Description
1968 Sunbeam Imp Sport , first registered May 1968 , purchased by its first owner from Rootes dealer in Worcester . Finished in largely original Lincoln Green Metallic .
The 875 cc Sport engine has been upgraded to 1040 cc by well known Imp specialist Ben Boult ( Corley Conversions ) before I bought the car from it's last owner in Somerset in 2014 .
it has covered a fairly low mileage on the 1040 cc engine , running on a Weber 28/ 36 carb , Sport cam and small bore Janspeed exhaust
You will see the factory Webasto sunroof in excellent condition) and also genuine Ford RS steering wheel , fitted by the previous owner.
Competition rotoflexes , Monte Carlo springs , 13 inch minilite style alloys
The car is largely original , there's a Smith's period rev counter , Rootes accessory reversing lights , Lucas spots with covers, electric washers , high intensity rear fog lamp , upgraded Halogen headlights , all protected by Rootes original relay fuse box .
The Sport central instrument display of oil pressure gauge and ammeter , also includes a Jaeger uprated temperature gauge , more accurate than the original.
The standard fitment reclining Sport seats are there , the original black vinyl is in excellent condition
Also inertia reel seat belts
There 's a recent battery , brake servo , brake shoes and wheel cylinders
I've really enjoyed the car for 11 years , before that I have owned a number of Sunbeam Imps , Stilettos and Clans over since I was a student in the late 1970's . I . ve been a member of the Imp Club since 1980
UWP 123 F is probably the best Imp I have owned , the bodywork appears very sound (see photos ) but I'm no mechanic and rely upon specialists to look after it
There is a considerable history file , including copy V5 registration docs ( when you could still get them) showing the previous owners and when they acquired the car
Some of the upper Lincoln Green paintwork is faded ( to be expected given its age ) and it probably needs an outer Wills Rings gasket , looking at some oil leaking out between the head and block . I've always loved Sunbeam Imps , since my mother acquired a late 1966 Sport in 1972 , just after I passed my driving test , and I was able to borrow it ! Many happy memories of seeing off Mini Coopers and Anglias back in the day .
I always wanted a 998cc or 1040cc version and was lucky enough to own a Hartwell tuned 1973 Imp Sport for many years , covering 150000 reliable miles in the process.
This Sunbeam UWP 123F is something else , I love the early dash and the1040cc engine delivers smooth effortless power on the Webwe 28/ 36 , Sport cam and Janspeed exhaust .
The car is featured in the December 2020 Imp Club magazine Impressions .
Very sorry to see it go but increasing work and family commitments mean it is not getting the use and attention it deserves .
It is obviously a rare car now ( as a Sunbeam ) , but as most will know , there is great spares back up and specialist knowledge out there ,
It 's in really good overall condition , but by no means the very similar beautifully restored car (also LIncoln Green ) that sold on this site for £20000 a couple of years ago
