Description

I purchased this lovely 1978 BMW R80/ 7 in April 2015.

It is in excellent original condition, and in its original Metallic Burnt Orange paintwork with Gold Coaching. Its current mileage is 23, 500 miles. Frame number is 6027023.

Although not shown in the photos, it also comes with its original Krauser panniers. The bike comes with 2 keys.

I purchased the bike in April 2015 from a private seller who had owned it since 1980 when it was just 2 years old. The V5 states 3 former keepers, though I recall being told that the 2nd keeper was the garage who sold it to the previous owner in 1980. I understand it had been garaged from 1988 to when I purchased it in 2015.

I had it recommissioned by Victory Motors in London, though to be honest it didn't require much doing to it as it had been so well looked after while in storage.

It comes with an extensive file documenting its service history going back to when it was first purchased.

Items attended to in my ownership include:
* Carburettors rebuilt in 2017
* Fork rebuild in 2021
* Replacement voltage regulator in 2021
* New battery in 2022This is a lovely bike in amazing unrestored condition. The original paintwork is exceptional. The alloy engine and transmission parts obviously show weathering as they have never been touched other than regular cleaning, though they look better than many newer bikes.

The reason I chose this particular bike it was the it had, to me, the perfect combination of smooth 800cc engine, great colour, lovely bikini fairing, wire wheels and my favourite seat shape. It is very well spec'd with steering damper, audible indicators, rear mud flap, etc. It is so original it still has its first aid kit, toolkit, hand pump, Riders Handbook and Technical Data and Service book.

It is a lovely bike to ride and in feels beautifully over engineered. In its day it was an extremely expensive bike. The handling and sound is wonderful and it has lived up to its reputation for being a comfortable and reliable bike.

It has always started on the button and the only issue I had in my ownership was rough running which was solved with the carburettor overhaul.

Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to ride it much in the last few years and hence I have decided to sell it to someone who can appreciate it. As it is now an Historic Vehicle it does not need a current MOT, though I am more than happy to have it MOT'd if required. In my ownership it has always passed its MOT without advisories.
