Description
Reluctantly my 3 year old Plus Four is now for sale; my advancing years makes it difficult for me now to get out of the car! She has covered 8, 550 miles from new and has a full service history.
I bought the car new from Brands hatch Morgan in September 2022 for £81, 525 and named her ‘Ruby Tuesday’.
The car is finished in Crimson with a cream leather interior and a maroon carpet bound in cream.
She is fitted with the BMW 255 BHP 2 litre 4 cylinder direct injection engine with a twin scroll turbo. Weighing just 1114Kg this all aluminium car does the 0-60mph sprint in just 4. 8 seconds. yet returns 40mpg!
I have fitted a tool box to the bottom of the luggage rack and which contains the jack, wheel spanner etc. This leaves the carpeted space behind the seats free for extra luggage.
£60, 000 and includes the special registration number plate.

Cooper Avon ZV7 205/ 60 R15 91V TyresYears ago, when Colin Chapman the founder of Lotus Cars was asked how he got his cars to go so fast considering their small capacity engines, Chapman replied “I add lightness”. This is the same design philosophy used by the CX PlusFour. The all aluminium tub weighs less than 100Kg and the outer aluminium skins like the wings are formed using new vacuum/ heat technology. This produces a formed panel thickness of just 1. 2mm. The 255 BHP output of the BMW engine propels a car with an all up weight of just 1115 Kg (232 BHP/ ton). Resulting in a car that is blisteringly fast.
Unlike the older generation, the new breed of Morgan has dispensed with a ladder chassis and under the skin it is all high tech. The CX features a bonded all aluminium tub with double wishbone suspension on all four corners.
The company’s first foray into an aluminium bonded chassis, was the Aero 8 in 2000 and was further developed into the reborn Plus 8 of 2012. The new CX Plus Four tub has seen further significant development, as chief engineer John Beech explains: “We wanted to develop a platform that would be lightweight and provide good structural rigidity, while also offering plenty of design flexibility for future models. We’ve doubled the stiffness (compared to the Aero 8 chassis) but at the same time significantly reduced the material thickness; from 3 or 4mm down to 1. 2mm in some places, which means it only weighs 97kg.”
The powertrain development work was carried out by BMW’s test facility at Aschheim, near Munich. BMW appointed its own programme manager to oversee the project and worked with FEV to carry out calibration, testing and homologation.
The build process begins in the chassis shop. Here the basic aluminium tubs delivered from Fablink, are fitted with pipes, cable looms, heating & ventilating components and sound deadening. The engine, drivetrain and suspension are next to be installed. By the time the finished tubs are wheeled down the ramp to the next workshop, they are already almost ready to drive.
The ash body frames are constructed in the wood shop in the next door building. They’re built up using a series of standardised components – some milled from solid wood and others laminated from separate strips of ash which are then bonded together in a metal jig.
The Plus4 of yesteryear has now been transformed into an ultra modern fast sports car, while still managing to look like a pre-war vehicle.
