Description
Selling my excellent MG ZS 180. Firstly I apologise for the length of this listing but anyone genuinely interested in buying one of these will know the potential failure points so will want to know all of the following!
I have owned the car for about a year and a half and have brought it up to an excellent mechanical standard. All of the usual failure points and expensive jobs have all been done meaning this car is ready for many more years of service. I bought it from a classic car dealer who sold it basically as a rolling restoration. He had put it through its first mot since 2016 after replacing the thermostat housing and replacing all three timing belts, the exhaust and the roof lining. The current MOT is valid until 1st April 2026.
Since owning the car I have changed the clutch, flywheel and (just because I was already in there) the rear crank seal. To ensure the clutch remains reliable I have installed a “Shedist” style clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder by Dark Ice designs along with new engine mounts. The gearbox oil was changed at the same time.
I have worked through the car fixing things such as the blower motor, rear wiper, replacing the cam sensor, replacing the idle control valve, installing additional sound deadening and re-upholstering the door cards. I did get a bit carried away with this and reupholstered the parcel shelf at the same time.
More recently the MOT highlighted that the parking brake only just met the minimum standard so I have just replaced all four brake callipers with new (I painted them gold), new drilled and grooved discs all round and new pads. I have also replaced the rattling intake manifold with one from a 44K mile car.
The only thing that doesn’t work on the car is the air conditioning. I’m not going to say ‘it just needs a regas’ because that is never true and any advert that says that begs the question;”why haven’t you done it then?” I suspect all the seals will have dried out by now and some components may well need replacing.
I serviced the car in November with new air, fuel and cabin filter, oil, oil filter and spark plugs.
Body wise the car is listed as grey on the log book, looks black in direct sunlight and dark blue in the garage so take your pick! It polishes up well and is very presentable with some touched in stone chips on the bonnet. There is a slight crease on the bottom corner of the drivers door but I have dent devils booked in to rectify this on 15th May so if the car goes before this I will knock the quote off the sale price.
The wheels have been professionally refurbished in the correct Silver Sparkle and the centre caps have had the correct and very rare brand new MG centre logos fitted. Two of the tyres were new in January 2024 when I bought the car and I have replaced the other two recently just because of age rather than lack of tread.
Inside the cabin is in great condition with no rips or tears. There is some wear to the drivers seat bolster but this isn’t bad - please see the photos. I have fitted a rare, brand new gear knob which lifts the interior. The car drives great, pulls well in all the gears (Vis motors working correctly) doesn’t smoke or rattle and doesn’t use any oil or water. There is no rot anywhere, including underneath.
I am aware that there are cheaper, lower mileage examples out there but this one is good to go with no additional expenditure (unless you are determined to fix the A/ C). The only reason I am selling is that I am after a jag XK and we have a strict ‘one in, one out’ policy in the household!
Thanks for reading this far!
